Hi All,

We purchased a 3" Serta Memory Foam mattress and when we pop down, there is a slight gap between the top and the body.  Any ideas on what we've done wrong and any fixes?  Would weatherstripping help?

Thanks!

not all PU have the same gap between the beds and the top. the best trick is to use a tissue box on the bed. place the tissue box on the bed and lower the top. raise top and measure the box to how much it is crushed. this will tell you how much of a Gap you have to work with.
hope this helps :)

Maybe, just maybe, the latches that lock the roof down were 'extended' for the prior mattress?????

Have you tried adjusting those latches to see if the roof lowers further for a tight seal between roof and PUP body?

I believe there was/may be some weatherstripping on the roof edge to seal the roof to the body....maybe it's been pulled out somehow.

Best wishes.

Are you putting this 3" memory foam "on top" of the old mattress ??  If so, it is just too much stuff to allow the roof to lower all the way.

If the roof closed fine before you added 3" of memory foam, and now it doesn't close fine, it's a pretty safe bet that the memorey foam is too thick to be used that way.

You probably have 3 choices.
1) Remove the memory foam and use 2" or 1-1/2" memory foam
2) Push the roof down onto the body and latch the latches anyway... it's memory foam, it'll compress!
3) Use the memory foam instead of the original mattresses

There is a fourth option I'll add to Austinado's list.  If you don't use the other bunkend to sleep in, then remove that mattress and store the memory foam there while towing.

We use egg crate mattress topper and had similar problem. We now just drag on top of the table top and there is enough room there for the top to come down.

We use memory foam but do the same, It makes it alot easier to lock the top.:)
