We have new to us popup (1993 Starcraft) and dont know how to get the awning set up. It has a screen that we can attach too - just not there yet. We cant figure it out at all.  It has poles too.  Thanks:)

Do you happen to know the brand name of that awning?

But genericially, once you roll out the awning, two or possibly three poles (both ends and possibly the middle) will be attached to the front rail of the awning. These poles will be the vertical poles that will be mounted to the ground with stakes.

There will also be two or three adjustable rafter poles that will go up in the ceiling area of the awning. One end of these poles will have a plastic protrusion end that will be inserted in to holes in the front awning rail and the other end will be pressed up against the side wall of the PU roof. That is why the rafter poles are adjustable. Install the middle rafter pole first, and then the two outboard rafters next. The awning is now self supporting, and can be staked down to the ground using the guy-wires included.

I recommend lifting the roof of the PU half way or just to the point that awning bag is just barely above your head, and then start the awning set-up procedure.   It will make it a lot easier to set it up in my opinion. Once the awning is set-up, raise the PU roof all the way.

This is pretty much how they are generically, and hope this helps.

Matterin,

Your awning may be different than mine, but hopefully these pictures will help.

My A&E uses 2 peice spring tension roof rafters (very tight).
The rafters' tip (only have 2 rafters) goes through a hole in the end of the adjustable vertical 2 piece pole into the 'roller tube' (near the end).

The hard part is:
Compressing the rafter pole against the side of the PU while trying to get the tip into the vertical and roller tube at the same time. Then trying to do the other end. I did it once by myself, it's a task with help!

Doing it half way up is helpful.
