The wife and i are thinking of heading down there for a long weekend. How are the campgrounds around the lake. I see some state parks and COE campgrounds. Thanks

We really like the Kerr Lake campgrounds.  In fact the NC Countyline and Kimball Point are our favorites period.  The campgrounds on the NC side tend to have larger sites and many are right on the lake.  All the rangers, etc that we have dealt with have been great.  There are several COE campgrounds on the VA that a lot of people like, like Rudds Creek and North Bend.  Very difficult to get reservations in summer at Countyline or Kimball, but you should be able to "first come" during the spring with no problem.

We just got back from North Bend Park. Loved it. Without question it's the nicest camp we've been to yet. It's run by the Army Corp of Engineers and everything is ship-shape.

They have 250 spots and four sections. Sections A & D are all primative. B & C are primative only in the areas in the flood plane. We stayed in B and had a nice spot close to the bath house.

There is no camp store but there is a little local store about a mile up Rt 4. They had everything we needed including plenty of ice! Right across the road from the store is Pino's Pizza. Very nice pizza joint. Check-in wasnt until 4, so on our first night we sat up camp then went to Pino's for dinner. This was great. No stress. Cold beer and great pizza, then back to camp to sit back and relax for our first evening around the campfire.

The lake is beautiful. The kids swam everyday. We are already planning our next trip.
