Does anyone know of a Duro Tire dealer here in Orange County? Wayne?
Thanks for the info.

Try Allen Tire Co. or Goodyear, They can get them if not in stock.I just put Denman Radials on our trailer before the halloween ralley and they seem nice but only time will tell.

Dave,

We used:
Interstate Tire Dist
6737 E. Washington Blvd.
Commerce, CA.
323-722-0477

You might give them a call and see if they have a distributor closer to you. However, these guys were quite good and gave me a very good price. They put in steel valve stems, no extra charge but I had to ask.

Commerce isn't that far from you. A lot closer than it is from us.

Dave,

Did you try Tire Rack.com? They have everything.

When we had a problem with our Duro tires we were told American Tire was the dealer for them.

I still haven't replaced my bad tire from the Santa Paula trip.  I was thinking of going to  a 14" rim- any idea where to get inexpensive trailer rims?

You will have to be sure that you have clearance for them. I have 14" on my trailer. Next time I go down, I'll try to remember to measure the diameter of mine and let you know.

I had priced a rim- JC Whitney was the best deal when they had a free shipping deal.
When I went to interstate they fixed my rim for me- the paint looks goofed up, but
the rim feels straight to the touch.

Interstate Tire is worth the drive. Give Sergio a call (It was Sergio, right Wayne?)
and he seems to be precise about  getting it right.

I'm still on the fence.  My rims are fairly rusty, plus I'm not happy with the performance of either the Duro or Marathon tires.  My Subaru is on its second set of tires in 13 years and 160,000 miles, with no issues other than tread wearing out very slowly.  I somehow don't think ST tires are really the best quality or price in the tire world.

I was considering going with 185R14 "van" tires which are used for VW transporters and some other european vans.  Sidewalls are stiff to keep the narrow top-heavy vans from wallowing so they should also work well for a trailer.  They're an 80-82 aspect ratio and rated for 1600 pounds at 50psi in range C or 1875 pounds at 65 psi in range D.  Speed rating is "Q" for 100 mph vs 65 for most trailer tires- so they ought not fall apart from towing up the hot Central Valley in summer.

Size on these tires is the same width and only about 1" more in diameter than my current tires.  At 25.7" diameter they're about 1/2" smaller than the normal 205/75R14 trailer tires at around 26.2".  Plus they're cheaper.

All that said, there's an RV surplus dealer in Indiana that has sets of aluminum wheels with 185/80R13 Marathons for $250 shipped.  I'll probably go with them.  That way I would still have two good spares.

That's pretty darned close. I went down and measured mine (same size as highlighted). I came up with just on 26.5".

I wanted desperately to upgrade to 15" with my trailer but I have a frame member that is 1/4" from the rear of the tire.....:swear:
