Think it takes you a long time to set up your pup?

Check out some of these set up times.  These are travel trailers.  Must be some slow people.   //www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/23194943.cfm

You got that right. 90 minutes to set up a trailer? What are they bringing, their entire garage? The wife and I can set up the pup and camp in about 45 minutes. And we set up a LOT of stuff. And I was jealous of some of these trailers. This summer we had one pull in next to us, after lining up in the spot he jumps out and plugs in the power. Back in the rig via some switches the rig is leveled with an auto leveler, the slide outs extend, and the dish antenna goes up. Only other thing was to connect sewer and water. This guy spent maybe 10 minutes tops getting set up.

I solo, and rarely have help with set up.  It takes me a while to partially raise the roof, attach the gizmos, unfurl the awning, get the add-a-room started, and finish the process.  Depending upon how tired I am, I might take a rest break in between set up steps.  Dragging the carpet and unrolling it under the awning takes me a bit of time.  I can do the set up in about 45 minutes, but generally it takes me longer.

It takes Hoppette and I about 35 minutes to set-up the PU and awning, and me setting up the campsite (hanging the clothes line, chairs, tables, unloading the firewood from the back of the pick-up bed, cleaning the firepit, and cleaning the campsite, TIKI torches, and lighting the WH) about another 45-minutes.

Hey it just goes to show ya, the more stuff you bring, the longer the set and take down is... No matter a PUP or TT...

We've got it down to 20 minutes from engine shut down to sitting my behind in a camping chair.............:-()

Clearly, it's not the trailer rather all the cr...  er... stuff we bring.  I think the biggest hassle with any low profile folding trailer (tent trailer, Chalet, Trailmanor, etc.) is that we have less easily accessible storage due to the lack of upper cabinets.  Therefore our various jury-rigged upper storage has to be put away.

For a weekend trip or a road trip I try to keep the "stuff" to a minimum.  With a near-flat campsite I can stay hooked up and be ready for bed within minutes of pulling into camp.  In the morning we can hit the road within minutes of the kids getting dressed- since I can pack up the outside stuff and raise the stabilizers while they're still in bed.

Normally though... A couple hours of fiddling around.

He swapped out a tent trailer for the Trailmanor, and swapped out a little truck for a bigger one.  Soon he'll be swapping out Doofus for a toucan.

When we had popups, there were four of us.  DW, DD, DS and myself.

1.  We didn't take along a lot of extras.

2.  Kids were always involved in setting up the popups.  Yup, it took some patience on Dad's part not to jump in and take over, but in the long run it was worth it.  Jobs were assigned according to age or ability.

3.  Rule:  No one goes off to play until we are setup.  Amazing how fast a family of four can set up a popup.

Now it is DW and I in the tt.  She guides me onto the site, then does the inside stuff and I do the outside stuff.  About 20 minutes once we are on the site.  Again, we travel light.

I realize that some are "dobyselfers" but involving a family into the setup and takedown process can be enjoyable (after a few tries) for the entire family.  It also teaches trust, teamwork and responsibility.  And perhaps some parental patience.

It's all relative to what's going on ...

When traveling cross country there's only a minimal set-up for the night, no awning, in fact, try to stay hitched. Here I think it's be in the 15 minute range - let it be raining and I'll shave five off that.

If I'm staying for a week we're talking at least an hour. When I set-up camp for a major stay it's comfort and convenience and sprawling out. But here  setting up is not the problem, it's packing all the stuff back up and closing up ~ here we're talking half a day ... right?

It take me about 35 mins with the help from the kids.:)

I have found one item that greatly cuts the time it takes me to PU the pop up.
RAIN!!!
The last year or two I have greatly cut back on what I pack and what I set up.  If I am camping by myself I can have the awning up, and the camper set up in about 30 minutes.  If I am staying for a longer time I take more toys along and it takes longer.  I had my awning and AAR moded to make setting the AAR up much faster and easier.  I had the top portion of the AAR end panels sewn to the awning, then the end panels were cut off so that I have a wedge shaped piece of the AAR attached to the awning.  Where the AAR was cut off I had a water proof zipper sewn on to attach the AAR to the awning.  There are pictures on my webshots album.  It is easier to look than for me to explain.  Popping down take longer for me, because I clean everything as I am popping down.  Popping down takes an hour or two depending on what was set up.:)
