Left town Thursday morning. Got to MSP about noon -- right at check-in time.
Set up the camper by myself in 3" of fresh snow. That was fun! Really wasn't too bad. The CG had many more campers than I expected -- about 1/2 full on the loop we were on (Conifer Ridge). Mostly 5ers and TTs. There were 5 pups in the park including us. And probably 7-10 tenters (felt sorry for them).

Anyway, MSP did not disappoint. It is a nice park with campsites well spaced and treed. Looking out our dinette window, all we could see is snow-covered trees. Eating breakfast while watching the birds do the same -- that's what camping is all about. But I digress...
The facilities building was open, warm and clean with hot/cold running water, flush toilets and hot showers ($.25/minute - $1.00 minimum). Most site are long and will accomodate most any size unit. They have nice fire-rings and tables (somewhere under the snow). Didn't use them this time though.
The rangers kept the roads plowed well and were very helpful to some folks in a 5er whose slide-out wouldn't slide back in (frozen I think), causing them to over-shoot the 12:00 check-out time. Snowed pretty much all day Friday and broke to a beautiful sunny Saturday morning.
Lots of hiking (guided and non-guided) to do and great photo ops available. You can see 3 mountain ranges from the camper services building. Also (when weather permits) they have good programs of interest.

Mueller State Park remains at the top of our list of favorite CGs in Colorado.

Don't know if camper services will be open now (showers/potties). You might call and verify.

Hi folks, I live in Illinois.  Would you recommend Mueller as a destination for us to go to in CO?  I'm thinking about us going next summer with our kids (age 10, 6 and 5).  My thought being that we are close enough to Colorado Springs to do some other activities as well.  Does it get busy during Summer months?  Is there a section to the campground you'd recommend over another?  Thanks for the info.

The weather was absolutely perfect, 70's in day.... the trees amazing....snow left in shaded spots....couldn't of been a better weekend at Muellar, definitely on the list to return too....
the place was full and all services open, people can hunt there, so I am sure it is all up and running until after season, but that is just assuming.

erich0521- if you can get in Peak view, you would be very happy, I also notcied 88 and 9 were very nice too....we were in confier ridge, which was nice in the woods feel too and close to showers/bathroom and play ground, which was perfect for us...I would highly reccomend a stay there, not to far, but seems far far away :)
ENJOY!

Yes, Mueller is a great place to use as "base camp" for touring around the Springs.
You'll need to make reservations early though....it fills up fast. But the nice thing is -- even when the park is full, it doesn't "feel" crowded. Feel free to check out my pics from the weekend previous to Cobalt's excursion (Cobalt -- I'm envious you has such perfect weather! The Aspens were not at peak when we were there.).

Our favorite is Conifer ridge for the same reason Cobalt mentions. Haven't stayed at Peak View (only 5 sites on that loop I believe). I like the woodsy feel. The odd-numbered sites on the left are the nicest ones. Very private and not as much traffic as the pull-through sites on the main road.

88 and 9 --- oh and these are on main road, did not think of that, was looking for view, which is just amazing and only a walk away from anywhere, it is a place to be seen!

We'll be heading to Mueller at the end of July.  We're coming all the way from the Dallas area, but excited about finding some place cooler.  We are really looking forward to a week in the mountains & woods.  Tent camped everywhere within 3 hrs of Dallas; all the state parks.

We just got our popup in May, and we've only had one trip in it.  No time to go between now & July, but can't think of a better place.  Hope it turns out to be all you guys are saying it is.  Can't wait!!!

We'll be on Conifer Ridge loop.  Got a little 15-mo old, so it's nice to be off the main road.  But still close enough to the "facilities".  We'll let you all know how everything goes.

Please do! Hope y'all have a great trip. Be sure to catch one of the ranger talks, they have been very informational.

We spent 4 nights there last summer. Parks employess were great.
The restroom/showers and washing machine areas were top notch also.
While there we took the backroads to the Royal Gorge area. What a breathtaking place and everyone should make an effort to go there if they are in the area.
