Jed Update -- Insurance Co. Settlement

After really struggling with the insurance company over my claim for Jed's poisoning, I've finally gotten a settlement figure.  They're going to pay the maximum for Jed's long-term care.  My actual expenses for Jed, which included 2 nights' hotel stay, came to ~$8700.  I'd included in my statement small expenses for food, gas & mileage, (about $150) which they didn't even discuss.  They also disallowed one of the nights in the hotel, saying that I could have stayed at the campground.  Add to the $8700 another $2064 which is the estimate for his long-term care & we're at ~$10,771.  They're going to pay ~$10,950.  That includes my net per diem rate for the day I had to take off.

I'd say that I'm pretty happy with this.  :)

The company's mailing me a release, which I ought to have by the end of next week.

While it will never give me back the past 4 weeks, it'll take care of the real bills and give me a bit of savings for anything that might come up in the next few months with Jed, which according to the vet, is about a 15% probability.  He's had absolutely no issues since coming home.

This chapter of the nightmare is almost over.

Thanks for your support, everyone.

glad they are paying up without too much of a fight and most of all Jed will be OK
give Jed a hug from us

Great news!!! Although you didn't want to go through this in the first place. It is nice to know that there are people out there who will do what's right when error occurs instead of attempting to cover it up.

Glad to hear that Jed is doing better as well.

The main thing is that Jed's OK....

Is he still on phenobarb? How's his hind legs doing?

How are you doing??

It's a shame this ugly mess had to happen in the 1st place. A lot of people don't think about the consequences of using a lot of different kinds of chemicals.

Laura thank you for the update on Jed that is great news about the Ins Co making good on your claim.  Sure glad he is going to be OK and you both will be back camping with us soon.

So hows Jed doing??

Azusateach

Thanks for asking, Dieter.  :)

Jed's doing incredibly well.  We're walking our usual route every day with no problems & his toenails are finally at a more acceptable level.  They were getting pretty long with all the inactivity.  He's full of spit and vinegar and still a big goofball.  His one new behavior that I really like is when I let him on the couch with me.  Instead of settling on one end he now snuggles right up next to me.  Fortunately he doesn't try to actually get on my lap, but it sure feels good to have him closeby like that.

I got the insurance check a week ago.  Almost $11,000.  It covers all of his vet bills, hotel bills, my missed day from work, along with a "cushion" of about $2000 to cover any potential vet bills.  Luckily for both of us the vet doesn't want to see Jed until he hits his 6-month mark, when we'll begin to wean him off the phenobarbital.  And then we'll be done!  It's all good.

And to top it off, I'm getting my new trailer tomorrow.  The HTT served its purpose well, and I'm looking forward to not having to wrestle with the bunkends anymore and can leave my bed made.  I've already got a 4-week trip planned this summer!  It'll be fun to have you all see it when we camp together again.

Happy Thanksgiving all!
