Hey,

I haven't even picked up the camper and am looking at mods.  I am sure someone here has changed out an 1156 bulb with leds.  How did it work for you?  I believe the camper uses it for the exterior light.

I put LEDs in our camper and we didn't like them. They are a different color light and it takes some getting used to. They turned everything sorta blue. When we had company, they weren't impressed .

There are some members that have switched to LEDs and really like them. There are also different "flavors" LEDs. The ones that I got my have been the cheaper ones. Although it isn't "Cheap" when we spent $60 on the things and they are now sitting in a drawer. It may have been better to go with the more expensive ones, in retrospect.

Now that I have a bigger battery bank and solar panels, I am happy with my power sucking, incandescent bulbs.......:D

Hey Scott - what exactly are you picking up??  LOL!

In one camper, (to be honest, I really don't remember which one) I replaced one 1156 bulb of the front fixture with an LED.  I did this over the sink / kitchen area, mainly for North Lake trips.  I put it in the socket that came on with the switches first position, and left the incandescent 1156 for the switches second click (both bulbs on).  I didn't like the light it put out, it was dim and kinda like that HID headlight blue.  It gave me a headache.  I put up with it for the power savings while up there.

My latest camper has tons of double bulb light fixtures in the ceiling, and there is one over the sofa with a single bulb under a cabinet, kinda in the middle of the camper.  I was looking at this fixture on eBay to replace that one only, again for North Lake.  Check it out and lemme know what you think:

I was hoping it might work better starting life out as an LED, rather than retrofitted.

Hey Rick,

The camper has an 8.5" round exterior light like they had on the rigs years ago.  If I change it out I may do a yellow exterior color as I wouldn't need white to attract insects.  So the blue ting wouldn't be an issue.  I am just concerned about it putting out enough light.  I can't seem to find online anywhere yet that sells a complete unit to replace that would be all leds short of going with a bigger rectangle light that the rigs have now.  That may be the other option.

Oh, and to answer your question, I am getting a 2001 timberland.  This time no slideouts.  To many issues in the past with the slideout.  I will send you a link to the couple pictures they have posted online.

Oh you mean an outside light...  I thought you meant for the inside lol.  I know exactly what light you're talking about, we had that light as a scene light on one of our rigs.  We had a neighbor last October at Watkins Glen KOA with that same light on their camper - OMG it was bright!  It was actually brighter than my campfire, if that is humanly possible lol.  :eyecrazy:

Congrats on the new camper!  It is very nice having bunk beds for the kids!  That was the main reason I went with my latest camper, a bed for everyone!

So Scott do you have the camper home now?  Did you sleep in it yet?:)

We have LED's in & out and like themalot, we carry a small table lamp an run that on an inverter if we dont have any hook up's.

Thanks for the input.  It is now on my list of stuff to do at some point.

Tracy, we were going to sleep in it last night but found there were quite a few of the small ants climbing around the place.  Guess they were upset that we moved their home.  With how much Jorja hates bugs, I decided this wasn't the best first night opportunity so we will wait.  Got some terro to put out and will let them drink that for a couple days.  Problem solved.

copcarguy

Congrats on the new camper!

Did you guys get to sleep in it yet??  Are you going to do your battery mods on the tongue like the last camper??

dademt

Thanks.  Didn't sleep in it yet although nik's parents did.

I am already working on a mod for the front.  This time it will be to hold a bigger single battery and uprights that will hold the leveling blocks so I don't have to put wet muddy blocks into the compartment all the time.  Once I get it done, I will post some pictures.
