We are in the early stages of planning a trip to Disney World.  I would like to camp and Fort Wilderness sounds like a nice campground.  Any info you have on the campground or things to do/not do at Disney, Sea World etc.  will be welcome.

 Thanks in advance.

tlhdocTracy we went to Fort Wilderness in 2001. We bought the 4 day " Parkhopper"  passes for the WDW parks. We also went to Sea World 1 day. We stayed in the 1500 loop, which is near the Meadow Trading Post & pool. I would not hesitate to stay in this loop again, but I didn t see a bad site anywhere. The Parkhopper Pass let s you go to any of the parks you want to go to in one day. You can go to Animal Kingdom in the morning, the Magic Kingdom that afternoon and Epcot that night. They are either 4 or 5 day passes and there are different levels of extras (water parks and such). Check out the link below, and also do a search of the old boards. There are 100 s of posts on FW and WDW there.

 tlhdocTracy,

We just booked for early August.  The rates are Value rates so a week (6 nights)on full hookup is about $267.00 including tax.  Of course, there is the heat and then the bugs in August, but . . .

 Check out:

both were a great help!  Have fun planning!

Maybe we ll run into you there [:D]

tlhdocTracy, on your way south, pick me up as part of your " gang" . I ll never get Raymond to go that far with a camper. Hey I can pay may own way and even help with gas and driving. Or you could pick up me and the Bantam, then we could boondock on the way down[8D][:D][;)]

 tlhdocPaula,

You could always just catch a cheap SouthWest flight to Orlando an just show up at the campsite[;)]

 tlhdocTracy,
We just booked our site at WDW for October 4-11 (yes we will be staying a whole week).  We booked through AAA and saved over $81 for the week (about 20% off).    Look at the Spencer s home page listed above; there is some very good information that they link to.  We are probably going to get the 5 day park hopper plus tickets.  We are going to start buying our tickets (just one a month and that way it won t hit our budget too much - won t have to put down $700 for tickets at one time).  I also bought Birnbaum s Walt Disney World guide.  It has maps of the parks, a little blurb about each ride and what they think are good rides.  It also explains about the fast pass (where you don t have to stand in line for some of the more popular rides).    Well worth the $15 I spent on it.  It also talks about places to eat, and some recommendations (best pizza, best places to catch a character, the best character breakfasts, etc).  We also booked the Hoop Dee Doo Review at Fort Wilderness ( one of the longer running dinner shows at Disney - ribs, chicken, baked beans and strawberry shortcake).  It is a little expensive ($47.80 adults/$24.81 for children).

Things to do at the campground: pools, bike, boating, blacksmith shop, campfire program, electrical water pageant(9:45 pm), fishing (catch and release), hayrides, petting farm, trail rides, Tr-Circle-D ranch (where they board the horses that pull the trolleys for Main Street in the MK), volleyball, tetherball and basketball courts, and the Wilderness Swamp trail (walking trail).  (This is from the guidebook).

We are excited to be going (no matter the cost of gas).  When are you looking to go?  Maybe we ll be down there at the same time.

 tlhdocSharon -
Call them back (reservations) and tell them you want the Florida Resident Discount and that should give you a nice discount.  It is ONLY for Florida Residents to encourage us to visit the Mouse House!  The discount became a considerable savings for our FPUC members last year.  Hope that makes a difference for you!
(PS - there are over 600 different discounts they have to wade through and if they tell you that there are NO Florida Discounts available - ask to speak to a supervisor!  Worked for us!)

CamperJonesI didn t know they had a Florida resident discount.  I actually got a discout through the DC.  It s for a full hookup site for 52.00 a night.  I wonder if the FL resd. one is a better discount.  I think I ll call and find out.  Thanks Linda

I frequent Disney as i live about 3 1/2 hours away.   It is an awsome campground.  So much to do there.  We love the farm and do go to the Hoop de do review. It is allot of fun.    I dont remember the site numbers off hand but the closer to the lake . general store and restaurant the better for convenence.   Otherwise you have to take the bus around the camp ground.  We splurged with a golf cart and that was fun but costly.
Also love the chip and dale campfire sing along and out door movie.  Do not forget bug spray... i dont care what time of year it is... fla. is buggy. Even Disney has  them,  as clean as the campground is. [&:]

  Have fun

Islands of  Adventure is a blast....take a change of clothes, bathing suit or rain poncho as you WILL get wet.  One wet ride after another.  Suess land is a hoot and young and old alike like it there.  Magic Kingdom is a must and make sure if they have the Spectromagic parade to see it.
MGM has a show at night called sourcer in the sky?????? It is really worth taking the time to see.   There is just so many wonderful places there,  i am thinking of all our good times and i could go on and on..
