I have been looking for a good camping table for our screen room for some time now.  I really like to have a table next to the outside stove, for putting my camp kitchen on, and preparing meals, doing dishes etc.  I have been looking for one of the plastic topped folding utility table that I liked for some time, but just haven t found the right thing.  We have a wooden top one that is six foot long that we have been dragging with us, but it just took up so much room, and Brian uses it in the garage, so we had to unload it for each camping trip, and it didn t fit well in the bed of the Supercrew.

Tonight at Wal-Mart I found the perfect table!!!!  It is a six foot utility table, but if folds in half in the middle.  It just folds in half, and there is a carry handle on it.  It is heavy, but not too bad, a nice beige color, and I can t wait to give it a try at the our campout in March.  It will fit nicely on top of the sofa in the camper while traveling, and will be dedicated to the camper, so no throwing everything off the top of it at the last minute in the garage.

Now I just need to buy one of the aluminum topped ones with the slats to put behind the camper.  That way we are right there where the hot water is from the outside shower, and we can wash dishes back there and not have to haul water.  Plus with the aluminum slats the water will run through instead of pooling.  I saw those at Wal-Mart too, but it didn t occur to me until just now it would be perfect for dishes.

 startxStartx,

Too bad you missed out on the Target sales of the roll-up aluminum tables last year. We got one, through Amazon, for the $5 fee + $10 shipping. Hold out until Suzeque or someone else finds them at the miracle price again. No sense paying $40 for one.

startxI had bought one of those folding tables for my cabin but took it back because I didn t feel it was sturdy enough for what I was going to use it for. I went to Lowe s and bought a 4  prefab shelf and a set of replacement legs and made a table out of that. The shelf had a formica top so I wasn t worried about spilling things on it.

startxStartx... I know just the table you are talking about (I think).  They were only $4.99 in Walmart by I-30 @ Beltline Rd in Mesquite.  I m going to pick one up on my way to work on Monday so let me know if you want me to pick one up for you.  I ll bring it to the campout.

startxI have two different sizes of the metal slat tables.  I bought each at Sams s Club the last 2 years.  I only take one on a trip and use it by the outside stove to keep the kids from banging into it.

startxThe aluminum slat tables also fit neatly over the support for our outdoor coleman stove.  Snce it fits so nicely under the support, we are able to use it as a cooking table and it is big enough that we also use it to hole accessories (like a latern and/or cooler).

TrlrboyHey Bob, I don t have a specific aluminum table in mind.  I recall seeing several types at Wal-Mart yesterday, but would have to look again before making a decision.  I just need one big enough that it will hold the two dish pans, and leave some room for allowing the dishes to air dry.  I ll drop by the local Wal-Mart and see if there is a specific one I want.  Hopefully it will be $4.99 one.  [:D]

Shirley - I ll check that out.  I had not ever seen these tables before at our Wal-Mart, there were brand new this year.  I ll test it out though and see if I really like it, and I ll let you know.

ShirleyTHey shirley, I think we might be talking about different tables.  I just brought this one in and set it up, since I wanted to be sure I had what I wanted.  This one sets up to six feet long, and is sturdy as can be.  I had my 135lb 9 year old sit on it, and it didn t even give, and isn t wobbly.  The top surface is going to be great for us too, its a heavy duty plastic, like the plastic folding tables at Sams.  This is the same, except it is a six foot one that breaks in half instead of having to tote the six footer around fully extended.

I have to have a BIG table by my stove.  I don t mess around about cooking while we are camping, and with such a big family of very " healthy"  eaters, I don t cook in small quantities either.  I also hate going in and out of the camper to retrieve things while cooking, so I keep about everything I would need for the whole trip sitting on or under my cooking table.  The six foot length is perfect for by the stove, and this one is even a good height, a little taller than the wooden one we usually take.

If I can borrow a digital camera from my friend I will take some pics, or else maybe Bob can come by and take pics on the spring campout for me.

Trlrboy

startxWell I m sure the table you are talking about is a lot different than the $5 one I mentioned.  The one I saw was only about 20"  x 20"  and 24"  high.   Good for putting between to camp chairs as a " end table" .

startxSportsmansguide is carrying the aluminum roll up tables that were SO hot last summer.  Too bad they are more than the $10 Amazon ones on clearance last year.

Here s some coupons to help out

 SPG289 $10 off $100

 SPG750 $10 off $75 or more

 SPG288 $5 off $50

They really are SUPER tables, far better than their wooden counterparts.
I m glad I bought several last season.  VERY sturdy and fold up so compact.  My sister-in-law and brother camped with us once last year and FELL IN LOVE with ours, so I gave them one of the 3 I had.  They used it every trip and are very happy with it as well.

startx

startxYeah Suez, the aluminum ones I am talking about are like the ones you had on a great deal last year, but at the time I didn t think I needed one.

The six footer I found and like so well I got yesterday at Wal-Mart.  It isn t aluminum or slats, it s plastic.  Made like a plastic folding table from Sams, with an extra fold in the middle to make it smaller for transport.  I also got it at a price comparable to the standard 6 foot table.

The aluminum slat table I want for doing dishes behind the camper.  I saw several aluminum ones yesterday, but I don t think the roll up ones will be big enough for what I want.  I ll have to look at them again.

Bob, thanks for the offer, but I had guessed for the price that the table you mentioned wasn t what I was looking for.  I m just chuckling to myself imagining me trying to wash dishes on a 2 foot tall table.  [:D]

It has to be a different one. The one I had originally bought was like a heavy duty cardboard or something. The plastic one sounds great though!

startxEEEK!  I just flunked bargain hunting 101.  When talk on the alum slats table was going on last year, i checked out Sam s and felt the table was too heavy.

then i saw a friend had Slumberjack s Stowaway table and really liked it...so i bit the bullet and paid $60 plus shipping  http://www.sonomaoutfitters.com/camp_furniture/slum_table.html

is this the same as the sam s one?  any idea of weight?

Suezyque

startxThat looks exactly like the ones we got last year from Amazon, the same they are selling at sportsmansguide for $30

Suezyque

startxCheck the bargain hunters forum and you can get the aluminum roll up table for $24!!
