We are going to be pulling our  98 Coleman Sun Ridge (same as current Mesa) with our  84 Suburban (6.2 diesel motor, 3/4 ton with tow package).  With the weight of the Suburban, will we need a weight distributing hitch, a sway bar, or both?  We re new to this " bigger"  type trailer and want to do it right.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Camping CoxesGotten to believe that a WDH is the best way to go if sag is any kind of problem.  There are other and cheaper ways to handle sag but I believe that a WDH is better and dosn t create any other issues.
I have never seen the need for sway control but that does not mean that the same will be true for you.  Sway is created by a combination of factors including your trailor, tow vehicle and road conditions plus a few others.  In most cases, I suggest that you wait and see how your tralor pulls.  As far as I know, sway control can always be added if needed.  But if sway control will make you feel safer and more comfortable while towing, the investment in this won t hurt a thing.
Hope this helps and happy camping.

Camping CoxesI have to believe that you won t have a problem with the rear end of the Surburban sagging, that thing is a tank.  It has both a full frame and a fairly long wheelbase which are both good features.

I would say tow it once or twice to see how it handles, but at the most I think a sway bar will be all you need.

Camping CoxesI am inclined to agree with Tim, at the most all you will need is a sway control. My personal favorite is the ACAR unit. http://www.dyersonline.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+store_code=RV&screen=PROD&product_code=94-1194

I tow a Niagara with a 1/2 ton Ford pickup with nothing more than the sway control.

Camping CoxesI am a big fan of WDH s but if you need one, then there is something wrong with the suburban s suspension (or you are grossly overloaded).  The sway bar would be cheap insurance.
