TrlrboyOk, I m just making a mental note here to always arrive at club campouts after Bob and Patty.  If Patty gets too hard on you, tell her you plan to rent it out to the club members at the campouts for $5 a pop-up, and you can recoup your costs in NO TIME.  I mean an average 20 campers at each campout, your ROI is only like 5.3 campouts.[8D]

TrlrboyIt s women like you that make life wonderful.  Patty s pretty understanding about new toys.  It s just that she likes to know which hole I m pouring the money into BEFORE I do it rather than after the fact.  I like your thought process though.

 20 campers X $5 = $100 X 5.3 campouts = $530 for the drill and socket.  Wow that is an expensive drill you got.[;)][:D]

TrlrboyThanks to Red neff Barchetta for the suggestion on marking the lifter post so you can tell how high up you are.  I used the drill for the first time this past weekend and worked just great.  There didn t seem to be any strain at all on the drill getting the top up, even with the A/C on there.  It worked easily on the stabilizer legs and I even used it with my BAL leveler with a 3/4"  socket.

TrlrboyRight on Bob!  Glad it worked well for you.  No more cranking!!!!!
Much cheaper than upgrading to a Monterey too.

TrlrboySince I often camp alone, having marks on the lifters will not be of much benefit to me since I can t see the lifters through the canvas anyway. I m just real careful, I watch the canvas in the corners, and can tell when it s getting close because it ll start to tighten. At that point, I just slow the drill down to a crawl,
while I raise it the last few inches. When I get to the end, I ll feel the drill tighten
up before it actually reaches the end.

I m not sure this would work for everyone, and had certain hesitation the first few times I did this on my own. But I m comfortable with it now. Another idea for those that can t watch the lifters, is to hang a small string or rope from the rear of the top, cut to just the perfect length so that when the top is all the way up, it swings freely. Adding a small fishing sinker will help keep it taught.

Gone-CampingI don t know about the Craftsman s but the DeWalt s have a clutch control.

I set the clutch control just strong enough to raise the roof, then I could stand there all day with the drill going but it won t raise the roof any further than it s suppose to go...It ll just sit there and ratchet merrily away...[:D][:D][:D]

I m guessing other high end drills have the same feature...

 Skol...

Gone-CampingThe drill I have has 10 clutch settings.  I ll play around with it and try what Raven did, that sounds great.  Thanks for the tip.
