what a bummer the last week has been.  I felt something explode in the back of my neck last week and then got dizzy, muscle spasms, etc.  which have lasted about a week.  Thankfully, after an xray today, it basically confirmed nothing more scary...but boy is it uncomfortable and I don t like getting dizzy!!  Went to a chiropractor today who was great...very gentle, did heat and electric stimulation on the tensed up muscles and I m taking Ibuprofen to help reduce the inflammation.    Can t wait till it finally heals up...I don t like not feeling well for more than day...and this has lasted all week and the doc says it might be a couple of more weeks before I get back to normal.  Just as long as its before our first trip in May!!!

CamperrooI played a TON of racquetball and was participating in competitions when my arm started to tingle and then go numb, along with my fingers. It ended up being a pinched nerve in my upper back, near the shoulder blade. My doctor did some ultrasound on it and I also took some anti-inflamatory tablets.

I do sympathize with you. It really is NO fun!

CamperrooI used to work for a chiropractor for about a year.  When they first start you out it can be pretty intense (3x a week for 5 weeks), but I totally encourage you to keep with it.  My kids were adjusted as babies, and my 7yr old DS goes about once every three months because of headaches.  I would be in agony myself from sciatic pain from pregnancy if I did not go.  I was so bad during 2nd pregnancy that I would have to roll off the couch onto the floor on my hands and knees then lean on the coffee table and slowly get up.  It was awful!! [: (]  After a month at the chiropractor, I felt great!  Good luck to you - I hope your back on your feet and feelin  fine! [:D]

CamperrooI too think a chiropractor can do wonders.  Hope you feel better soon.

CamperrooMe too!  I ve had pinched nerve so many times in  my neck - I can actually feel it coming on - like I m about ready to pop and then I move the wrong way and WHOOOPS!  By knowing that it is coming on - I am so careful that I think I make it happen by trying not to move " wrong" .  I had it in my lower back once before and could not lift my foot up from the gas pedal to the brake without a tremendous amount of pain - I drove to the chiropractor - he yelled at me - but when he was done doing his magic I had no problem driving home.  I usually feel better within the first 2 treatments and go back for one or more just to be safe.
I d love to be able to buy one of those electronic machines that they use to undo the messed up nerve.
I also started to get recurrent bouts of vertigo (severe dizziness) and after having my ears checked and going thru a sleu of tests with no conclusions, I was told that a chiropractor in my area is becoming the guru on vertigo.  It makes sense that it could all be related - I m just not sure how!  I will be seeing him if I have another bout.
Hang in there - take care of yourself, keep up with the motrin and drink PLENTY of water - it helps with the dizzies......

CamperrooI thought I kept pinching a nerve, but then found I have three bulging discs in my neck  one of which rests on the nerve that travels down my arm to my pinky.  I did the chiropractic care for a while and it was great - gentle manipulation, stim pads only though, no hard adjustments.

Now that there is less pain,  I do yoga geared to spine and neck flexibility.  I have found it really helps prevent the pain and increase mobility - so far I have been doing it for 2 months and have had only 2 or 3 bad days whereas before I d have about 2 weeks worth of pain each month.

The chiroprator helped get it under control and helps with flare ups as does Skelaxin(muscle relaxer?).  But the yoga really has helped with prevention of reoccurrence.

CamperrooI have had the " lightning bolt"  both down my legs, and across the chest and down the arm.  When It started, about 20 years ago, I went to a " cracker backer"  and it just kept getting worse. After not going anymore, I have had far less problems with it.  IMHO the best thing is anti-inflamatories and careful movement.

I will never go to a Chiropractor again.

Camperrooi suffer from stress head aches and migrianes, and old neck injury from a car accident as a youth, the only relief i really get is from the chiropractor, i go twice a month, i did the physical therapy, the pain meds, etc. I don t want to live on pills!, So since the chiropractor helps i ll stick with him!

CamperrooHi everyone, sorry I haven t been in to check posts lately...I was feeling miserable but today I woke up and actually feel somewhat human!! [:D]  Can I ask those of you who go to chiropractors how you really feel about them.  The guy I have been seeing has been doing ultrasound therapy (feels great) and electric stim (feels good too) but he has this device called PulseStar...it s a 2 pronged thingy that he places over each vertebra and then it " pulses"  that spot about 100 times.  Think of it as hitting a  spot with your finger over and over.  He says it helps to relieve the vertebra stress at that spot, but every time he does it up near my neck by that night I m in agony with spasms in that area.  So I am going to tell him to ixnay the pulse thing.  How do you all feel about adjustments?  He wants to adjust my spine, says it s a " trainwreck"  and do something called an occipital push or adjust my neck.  To tell you the truth it scares the heck out of me, because I m afraid he s going to turn or adjust the wrong way and I m going to get hurt.  I don t think I can relax enough to let the man " crack"  my neck because quite frankly the whole idea freaks me out!!!!!!!!

If you can t relax - don t do it.    There are other forms of manipulation he should be able to do it that involve stretching and gentle pressure to shift the vertabrae.  The effect isn t that spontaneous ahhh like from a harder adjustment and may take a couple of extra visits before you really start noticing the difference.

I started with hard adjustments in my 20 s they were awesome, did that until last fall (was 37).  Now I  get the gentle manipulation and mobility stretching.  (I fell and wrenched my neck last fall and that was when they discovered  the bulging discs)

If your chiropractor doesn t do or offer the more gentle manipulation, find someone else.

Oh, and I agree about the ultrsound and the stim pads!  I just can t do the stim pads near the bulging discs- my neck goes into serious spasm from it.
