Does anyone have any tips on cleaning the underside of the awning?

We opened it up this past weekend, and noticed that there is a lot of mildew.  I did buy some awning cleaner, but haven t used it yet.  Reading the directions on the bottle didn t give me much confidence.  It says it must be applied several times to get any mildew off.

Is there a product that actually is for removing mildew?

ZooeyI haven t used awning cleaner on mine, but I have used Simple Green and it works great. I found it also is great for removing black streaks on the sides of the camper as well.

I ll third the Simple Green....the stuff works. If the awning is too bad, you can remove a screw from one end of the rail, slide the awning.....bag and all, out and unroll it on a flat surface. Then you can REALLY clean it. After it s dry and you put everything back together, roll the awning up to the UNDERSIDE...this helps keep water from getting into the rolls and causing such a mildew problem.

ZooeyI use Scrub Free Mildew Stain Remover for mildew on the awning as well as the canvas. The stuff really does work without scrubbing. While PU is " down" , unzip the awning back and roll out the awning.  Toss it over the top of the closed PU so that the underside is now up.  Spray on the Scrub Free Mildew Stain Remover and wait a few minutes.  You can then lightly go over the area with a soft cloth or simply rinse.

ZooeyI am a big fan of Simple Green too. I do have to say the awning cleaner from the store does work better than Simple Green. As far as mildew, I think the awning cleaner removes it, I use a soft bristled brush as well.  Have used both and prefer the awning cleaner for the camper............. now if we can just get the price down a little more or sell gallon jug refills.
