I think you can do it with the 2 poles. Lift the center and see how rigid it is. Then decide if you want to take it off or just swing it up and fasten it there.

Stupid question, can you use the middle and bottom parts of the middle pole for the extra pieces?

The RobinsonsI haven t been on this board long but I have noticed one thing. If it can be done better, cheaper, easier, or more efficiently, some one on this board has done it (or at least tried).

So my question with this awning modification is: " Why buy a new set of poles? Can t a set be pieced together from the local Home Depot?"  Has any one tried it? Successful? Not?

The RobinsonsHave to say, not, Jeff. The aluminum conduit is not the same grade as what s used in the poles. It s actually made to bend so it s easy to form for the electricians. The grade used in the poles is a much " harder"  grade. Over the years I ve seen the awning to TT or PU attempted at least 10 times using store aluminum conduit. Never sucessfully beyond the second or third setup. The tubing gives way.
While using " store bought"  pole ends to extend the existing poles may not be the cheapest, it is the easiest and most efficient.

That would give you one end, then you got to buy a pole for the other. Only the bottom piece will fit into the top piece. If you have a AAR you may want to keep the three pole intact for that too.

The RobinsonsUse a peice of PVC It works great and Very Easy to Drill. Very strong too. Cost me about 11 dollars and thats because I bought Expensive Snapper Clips...Took about 1hour to complete.
