The past 2 Fridays have been awesome for me.  Yesterday, I got the new Silverado.  The Friday before..... As most of you know, I m a music head, and acoustic guitar player. Well, last Friday Ray Wylie Hubbard was playing a free set at Bill s Records in Dallas. After he finished his set, I went up and asked him a simple question.  You see I ve been playing off and on for over 30 years.  I read an article about him a while back where he said he didn t learn to finger pick until he was 43.  I consider myself a resonably good player, but have trouble with " the constant thumb" . I asked him how he learned the " trick" .  Well to shorten this up, not only did he tab out a few patterns to practice, he also sat with me for about 20 minutes giving me lessons.....

bikolee(clears throat) Ahem... I hate to point this out, but gloating about two things in the same post is a serious breach of forum protocol. Therefore, you are required to list one as a " neener" , and the other as a " gloat" .

Note: A " neener"  is something you got, and we want, but is still attainable by the average person. A new truck is a " neener" . A gloat is something you got, and we want, but the chances of any one of us getting the same thing are slim to none. A personal music lesson from a legend is a " gloat" .

Now, if you had mentioned that you went to your lucky lesson in your *brand new truck*, and made no further mention of said truck, but continued to gloat about your personal music lesson, that in itself is called a " drive-by gloat" . Those are sometimes the most insidious, and yet subtly enjoyable, gloats of all.

So, on that note (pardon the pun), you qualify for one standard (though very nice) neener, and a major gloat. Glad we got that all straightened out. Congrats and well done!

bikoleeSoooo.... are you going to the NTPUCA campout at Cedar Hill next weekend?  You ll be providing the entertainment as payment for the neener and the gloat, I assume?!  To compensate for my husband s truck envy, I think payment in the form of a quick guitar lesson will be required, as well.  I m pushing for a guitar as a Mother s Day gift because I ve decided I want to be a chick with a guitar when I grow up!
