Has anyone changed out the LP tanks with the 30 Gal tanks. Is this a problem with the weight factor ? Or maybe the bed rolling out ?

AustinBoston

whitestar505I ve never tried this, but am curious...what are you planning where two 20lb tanks aren t big enough?

AustinBostonWell about three weeks ago I ran out on both tanks using heat, hotwater, and stove. Nothing like getting up in the middle of the night to change tanks at 37 degrees. So I plan on using the unit until mid/late November so.. would like to have some spare LP.

I tried it. It fits on my tongue and the bunk end barely clears it, but the bolt thread-holes to secure the tank don t line up with those on the tongue of my trailer. They re too high. If I had one of those Coleman J-bar thingies I could probably use it. Now the 7-gallon tank is hooked up to my barbeque and I bring a second 5-gallon tank while camping.

I just do what others do, I make sure the first tank is full before we leave. And if I think we might run out of propane during the night, then I switch before we go to bed. But I m more likely to run out of battery power than propane and if we have hookups we use the electric heater instead.

Either you live in a warmer place, or I am a wimp (or both).  If we have hookups, we use BOTH the furnace and the electric heater!

Austin (who sometimes camps in frosty weather)

AustinBostonOur electric heater keeps us warm down to the low 40s. We have camped with temperatures in the 30s, but that was dry camping so we used the furnace. California warmer than Massachusetts? Ya think? That s why we have 35 million people here! With 20 million more on the way....[&:][: (]

Sacto (whose popup is smaller than Austin s and tries to avoid camping in extreme cold or heat....so away to the beach we go!)

whitestar505

AustinBostonI guess what I should of stated in my thread is with gusting winds of 30 MPH or more... Yes, we use electric heat also and I will agree that it works very nice at 40.

 Thanks for all your input.[:)]

whitestar505We have the ABS tank cover, 30# tanks won t fit under it[&:] we don t have a furnace but we do have Buddy Heaters. I have dual tanks on the tongue, when we camp in cold(27 degrees) weather, I take a 3rd tank in a milk crate and set it on the ground out side the trailer. It has a tee on it so I can run extension hoses to the Buddy heaters. We usually only need one heater on low at night. We also sleep under a down comforter[:D]

 wahooncWahoonc,

I guess I am getting to old. I like comfort when going to bed. After Vietnam it was a long time before I started camping again. Over there I did enough camping. If you know what I mean.... You have a good idea on bringing another  20 or 30 lb tank. It just seems that I never have enough room, also with all of the other stuff to take which is also is more work I may add. I guess I am just running my mouth this morning.. Bare with me it will get better...

Aaron, If you take care of your body while you are young, even camping, it will take care of you when your older, normally. SO at 27 degrees get two wifes [:D]or anothe dog. Thanks for the info![:)] Welcome to the club!

 whitestar505Whitestar,

I am defintely not as young as I used to be[8D], In fact I have been camping for over 30 years...the popup was an upgrade[:o] I think. My BB (beautiful bride) is one of those people that sleeps warm...real warm. So I just snuggle a little closer and count my blessings[:D] My carcass is defintely starting to feel the abuse I dished out when it was younger[:D][&:]

The third tank has come in handy more times than I care to think. It can and will ride in the popup, in the storage trunk or in the back of the pickup depending on whim or space, it has bailed me out when I thought the ones on the tongue were full...you mean " YOU"  forgot to fill them?[&:] Or has helped a fellow camper in need.
