I just had my cable system repaired on my 1990 Jayco Designer Series popup by an authorized Jayco Dealer.  This repair cost nearly $500 and now I am wondering if it was done right.  When we raised the camper we noticed that the roof looked a little unlevel.  My husband measured the distance the roof was raised on all 4 corners at the posts and each is a little different.  They may be off by 1-2 inches.  This seems to have caused the canvas on one side of the camper (on the side opposite the door where the oven and sink are) to be stretched tighter than on the other side.  I think this may be the problem with our windows not zipping up easily anymore as well.  Can someone out there help me.  Should I take the trailer back to the dealer?  My dealer is 4 hrs away so I want to make sure that there really is a problem.  The fact that the roof is higher on some sides than the other just doesn t seem right to me.  Any help would be appreciated.

 Thanks

pkleinI won t pretend to know what kind of lift system the Jayco uses, but assuming it s a Goshen type system, you can adjust the individual corners from underneatht the trailer at the whiffle tree (where the four corner cables meet the main crank cable)... On my old Starcraft, ¬"  of adjustment equalled one inch of lift...

pkleinI would call the dealer and let them know they didn t do the job properly.  I would ask them to come pick up the trailer or come and adjust it at your home.

pkleinGone-Camping is right.  The way he described is exactly how we adjusted my camper when we replaced the cable.  It really is not that hard to do and can be done in a couple of minutes.  The only suggestion I would make is to have 2 people to make the adjustment.  One person can do it, but having two makes it alot easier.

The reason I say this is because you may have to crank the camper up and down a couple of times to get it level just right.  When my dad and I did it, he stayed underneath the camper and made the adjustments, while I cranked it up and down just a little to see if the corners where raising even (note: you don t necissarily have to crank it all the way up or down to see if its raising correctly).  Once we had it were we thought it was pretty even, we went ahead and cranked all the way up to make sure everything leveled okay.

Before you do this, however, I would DEFINATELY take Tlhdoc s advice and call the dealer back.  This seems like a trivial thing and for $500 bucks, I think you re entitled to have them send a person out to your house to adjust it for you.  They should have done it right in the first place!!  If they refuse to help, then I definately would find another dealer to help you in the future.

pkleinYes, take it back to the dealer. On another camping board, someone noted that Jayco has a closed system, and all the cables run inside the box. So you can t make adjustments unless there are access hatches under the cabinets.
