Would the dog be going with you? Greenbrier State Park in Maryland is nice but they dont accept pets. We go there for the day because they have a clean refreshing lake with boat rentals, fishing and swiming as well as 2 nice beaches BUT we dont camp there because they dont allow pets.     Sandy

This was a quick weekend get away!  The park is 6 miles outside of Frederick, MD just north of I-70.  As it is within a two hour drive of both Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD I figured it would be crowded.  Boy was I wrong.  Even though it appeared that they were " sold out"  (almost all the sites had a reserved sign on them), probably 1/3 of the sites were empty the entire weekend.  The park was very nice with 35 campsites.  Many of these are for tents only or are not suitable for a pop up, so there are about 15 " good"  sites, but only a few of these have electric.
   
 There is a lot of hiking in the park and an activity field with a swing set for kids.
   
 I m sure we will be back here.

    Been there, last year on the 4th Of July. You are right it is very nice, so nice I worte the state to tell them about it. This site http://www.popuptimes.com/members/tm.asp?m=24933&p=1&tmode=1 is in the area up by the National Park. It is privite but no one answers the phone except for the weekends. Odd huh!
