How do the pie irons (& maybe waffle irons) work on a campstove? We do not ever have a campfire and aren t about to start just for cooking. (A campfire has always seemed to be a lot of trouble to us. Then smoke began to set off my asthma, so that definitely ended any chance we ll have one. As it is I sometimes have had to use my inhaler because of other campers  fires.)
We have a white gas Coleman stove, which is our main cookstove. Last year we did use the wimpy propane one in the PU when fire reg levels were raised because of the drought, but the PU is so teeny the pie iron would be too awkward to use in it anyway. Since the PU is out of commission for this year (the renovation project is delayed due to other projects, we have it semi-dismantled), if the stricter regs are in place when we take our car camping trip, we ll have to bite the bullet and buy a propane Coleman - at least I found one with higher BTU s.
The pie irons in the PUT store look tempting, we were camped with friends when they used their iron on the campfire & what they made looked good.

kitphantomI have made similar " pies"  in a frying pan on a stove and in my electric gridle after squeezing the edges together well.  I suppose you could do one over either a grill or stove using the pie iron but I have never tried it that way.  It will be several weeks before I can get mine out to try it.

kitphantomWell when the camping urge gets overwelming we break out the irons, fire up the gas grill in the back yard and have a pie fest. Heat is heat and if the grill is hot enough so you can t hold you hand over it for more than 3-4 seconds it s plenty hot enough for pies.

kitphantomYes you can use them over the propane stove.  You will have better heat control too.[:)]
