Me and DD was out depositing some eBay cheques to pay the windstar and sent some parcels and I had this bright idea to go to Campkins (Local RV start, selles Trail-Lite, bantam, cardinal, starcarft etc ...) and look at the used PU s.

So we drive there, I had been talking to a very friendly sales person there for 2 years and I was hoping to see him, well, he is on vacation, so they page " a" salesperson. he comes, looks pleasant, I introduce myself, tell him who I deal with and ask him about the shasta, and if it were in good shape, and he evades the question. Then I ask hgim about the existing starcraft venture, and one with a basket in front (shuttle series ?)

We walk to the PU s, he tells me the mildewy/damaged flagstaff is 4,800 (It is stinky smelly) and the venture is 6,300 !!!

I go, ummm, errr, don t they cost 6,000 new ? It is an 8 PU with a fridge and heater only. He goes, nope, brand new they are 9,000, and this is the only ones we have. He starts going back to the store seperating away from us, I say thanks, have a good day and he says , thanks you too, and goes inside.

A few days ago I was looking at Jayco s and their Bottom of the line models were around 6,000 bucks, and this is a 4 year old PU. I was furious with their prices, Either the guy tried to rip me off, or the PU prices are going thru the sky !

I will try to contact my salesperson and see the real price on it. And I am wondering if I should tell the owner how I was treated... But then again, I was only looking for a cheap PU after all, not a MH [

DW keeps saying, stop looking, lets tent for a while, I say that too, but I also don t wanna miss that brnad new looking PU which will sell for next to nothing.

Anyways, just felt like venting ......

birolI worked with someone years ago who used to say " If you keep on window shopping, sooner or later you ll buy."

He was talking about something else, though..." buying" was having babies.

birolJust keep looking Birol, I found PU #2 that way! I was on the local Coleman dealers lot drooling over all the brandy new Colemans I couldn t afford to buy, and ran across this beat up old Starcraft that was the exact same floor plan as the one my father had when I was only 13. This one was significantly newer than my Dad s, but it was plenty old on it s own. It had a broken cable, one corner was held up by a 2x4, and they didn t bother setting up the bunk ends properly and were holding water, growing alge, and stunk to high heaven! [: (]

It was a trade-in, and the dealer just wanted that piece off of his lot, as it made the rest of his stock look like they were in the wrong neihborhood. He said I could have it for $250 if I could get it off his lot today. I told him that I only had $200, and had it on me and could have the trailer off his lot as soon as he finished the paper work. The trailer was in my driveway an hour later.

I eventually moved it into the back yard, proped the top up with some 2x4 s, and got ready to replace the cable. Turns out that just an eye bolt was broken, and I fixed the lifter system for 79 cents (plus tax = 81 cents). It had a couple other minor problems that I was able to fix with materials already on hand, so my 1978 Starcraft (lovingly named " The Old Barge" ) cost me a grand total of $200.81, and I used it for three years, then sold it for $300. So you just keep on looking, you can never know when the real deal will get dropped in your lap unexpectedly like that!!!![
