 Gotta Love those garage sales!
Picked up a clean 10 gallon $50.00 Barker tote for a mere 5 bucks today!
Also found a RayoVac Workhorse  Florescent lantern for $3, with new batteries in it!

ForestCreatureNow that s what I call SHOPPING!!!!!     Good going Marcy!  I sit back sometimes and look into our garage, and wonder " what would we ever do with out all this good stuff I found at the sales and thrift stores?   We never would have been able to afford to buy all this stuff at brand new prices."    Of course, DH looks at it and thinks, " Wow, if we could ever get rid of some of this old used junk, maybe we could someday park our car in the garage."     For the last 20 years I ve been snatching up every decent camping or hunting or fishing item I could find, and now we have 4 Coleman Camp stoves,  5 big insulated water jugs, several coolers of all makes and sizes, 2 or 3 screen tents, (not necessarily any good, sometimes you get them home to find parts missing, and then you buy another one to make up for the lost parts)  pots and pans up the wazoo, cast iron, speckled and aluminum, 3 of those little sets where the pots and coffee pot and stuff all nestle together and the plates and cups fit right in and the lid is a frying pan.   We at one time had so many sets of hunter orange jacket and coveralls that I was giving them away.  So many Coleman Lanterns I don t even know.    And sleeping bags,  OMG!!!   But, now my DS and his family are starting to camp, not just with Mom and Dad, but on their own, so gradually they are whittling away at the pile of stuff.   But, it s gotten to be such a habit to look for camping stuff, that I don t know how not to do it.

ForestCreatureFunny you should mention garage sales...this morning I stopped off at Home Depot and picked up a new floor lamp for $60, after visiting with my mom, I stopped off at an Estate sale and picked one up for $10!  So I had to stop back at Home Depot to return the first one I bought!

ForestCreaturethank goodness for people like Toni - they understand why my garage is so full of stuff that I can t fit my PU inside.  the minivan stays outside in the driveway, but the PU is in my friends back yard and would fly in a big hurricane.

in addition to all the camping paraphernalia i also have all sizes of kayaking gear, including paddles, PFDs (lifejackets), folding tables, folding chairs, folding beds.  Whenever a new and improved model comes out i buy and then can t bear to part with the old stuff!

must work on this pack-ratism syndrome.

wiininkweSo Toni, You can to outfit all the kids with all that spare gear! Do you have an extra 20 cup coffee perker or the innards to one by chance[;)]
When I switched over to propane stoves and lanterns we had a garage sale and sold off all the extras! Now I just pass the excess over to my son.

ForestCreatureGarage sales are great.  Last Saturday we bought a Thetford La Campa Potti for $20.  It was 5 years old, never used, still in the original box.  Walmart still sells the exact model for $99.96!   With 3 little kids camping with us, I figured it may help with the 4am hikes to the CG bathrooms.

ForestCreatureActually Marci, I bought a 36 cupper at the Goodwill for $5 and the very next day found another just like it a a yard sale for $2.  So, I have two really nice big ones, and one is still nice enough to keep in the house for Holidays.

We use ours for a water heater! [:D]

wiininkwe

ForestCreatureYup, that s exactly what I had in mind for mine too.   It works just great and when it s just the two of us, 36 cups is more than we would use right away anyway.   For doing dishes, it s plenty, and if you are going to use it for  washing up  (tea cup bath) you have to add some cold to it, as it s too hot, so there s plenty even for washing hair.
