Coming home from camp the other day i noticed that my PU s left turn signal is not working.  (Coleman Taos 2003)

All lights work when I turn on the headlight... on the right side when I turn on the turn signal, the tail light blinks brighter... left turn signal... no response (light is lit if the headlights are on... out if the headlights are off)

The PU is a couple of months old... so I m sure this could be warranty... but if it s something easy, I d prefer to avoid running it down to the dealer.

 Thanks for your help...

GeorgeDo both your brake lights work? If the light on the side without the turn signal doesn t work than check the bulb. If not than you have a probem that will take some investigation. Check the connector on your TV first to see if you have power with the turn signal on.  Then work your way either forward or backward from there.

GeorgeSure sounds like the bulb to me.  The bulb is double filament so you could still have a brake light with no turn signal or vice versa.  I d pul the bulb out and check it visually or even swap it with the other one and see what happens.  This will only take 5 minutes.

Anything more than this should probably go to the dealer if you are still under warranty.

 Hope this helps.

Georgetried a new bulb... it s fine.   I will check the adapter (4pin to 7pin the dealer made up on the day of the sale) before returning to dealer.

Do they sell these kind of adapters commercially?  This one looks like the dealer threw it together from old parts.

 Thanks,

GeorgeThey should be available at any auto parts store.

 GeorgeHey George,
Walmart even sells a 7 pin connector for the tow vehicle.  You will need to buy a bracket to mount the connector in if there is not an adiquate one already installed.  The nice thing is the new 7 pin connectors have a socket for the 4 pin flat to plug directly into.  Make sure you use plenty of wire ties to secure the wiring under the (TV).  This helps to keep problems away!  The only other thing you may need to look out for with the new connector is the ground.  It s a pretty simple install due to the fact the 4 pin flat alreay exists.  As already stated the bulb has two filaments.  One will light when the head lights are on.  This is called the running light circuit.  The other filament will light when the blinker is on and it should flash the same time as the (TV).  This filament will also light when the brakes are applied.  Most of us here on this site who have experienced problems like this have found the problem exists in the connection between the camper and the (TV).  It s a shame the dealer did less than a great job for you with this!

GeorgeThanks for the help folks... it was the adapter.  It took me a while to locate my old multimeter to test it, but the yellow wire in the 4plut to 7plug adapter was not continuous.

Of course, this was the adapter the dealer agreed to throw in for free when I purchased the Taos.  I guess I didn t specify a " new"  adapter cause this one is obviously thrown together from scraps.

I looked on the WalMart web site for the 7 way harnes to connect the TV directly to the Taos, but I couldn t find it.  (Not that I should... don t do much with cars by myself... i can usually point to the engine in three tries...)
