Well, we pulled in from Vermont yesterday, decided we didn t have enough camping for 4 days and 5 nights so we are taking off tomorrow afternoon and heading to Watkins Glen for the wine tasting festival.

kathybrjYou will have a blast!  I guarantee it!  Where are you camping?

While I ve never been to the actual wine tasting festival, I ve visited most every winery that goes to the festival.  We ve always chosen to visit each winery not only for the great wine, but the experience as well -- even when the festival was happening when we were there.  I would suggest visiting a winery or two -- the views are spectacular from most wineries in that area.

Have fun and let us know how your trip was!

kathybrjI had a difficult time finding a cg with openings so we re staying at a place in Corning, about 8 miles south of the track (or so they say).

We hope to have a great time. I think we should get a group together to go next year!!!

campingboaters

kathybrjNow THAT would be one group camping trip I would NOT miss!  I used to organize group camping trips there and we would have a blast!  We d all pile into a van and my husband would be the designated driver for the day.  We would hop in and out of the van and go from winery to winery.  Oh, we would be SO silly by lunch!  That was before kids...  Corning is not too far. It s probably better for coming home since it s farther south than Watkins Glen.

kathybrj

kathybrjWell, OH MY! This is a trip we will be making many more times!

First- thanks to Scott and Karen- aka steelersfan (PUX) for the tip on the wine fest. It was outstanding. Scott, Karen and I had a blast sampling some great wines while Blaise and the kids took a spin around the race track. The vendors tents were cool- lots of neat stuff!

We also got out to Corning Glass- all reworked with stuff for the kids to do and try out. We also went on a late afternoon jaunt to Wagner Vineyard and they very nicely let us have a private tour of the cellars (we were there late, but Blaise talked the nice young lady into letting us in).

We stayed at Ferenbaugh Campgrounds, outside of Corning:

From the road, it looks like a field, out in the sun, sites up against each other and no shade. But those are just some full hookup sites. The other sites are all pretty much wooded and fairly private. We were close to a bath house which was fairly clean and always has hot water. There is a nice pool, a little mini golf course, a nice little camp store, rec room, and some nature trails. It s only 8 miles from the track, so it worked out well.

I spoke to the owner this morning and she said they give a 10% discount to groups of 10 or more. It was $26/night with water and electric, so with or without the discount, we ll be there (we decided on site 103 for next year).

They take reservations for a year in advance. The festival is 716/-18 next year.

I hope we can get a large group together for next year. This was really a blast!
