I ve found two products good for cleaning mold and mildew. They are X14 and Tilex. I went to the campground today to clean under the awning. This past spring before I opened it up for the first time, out came alot of water. Of course it became mildew and had mold. I put the stuff on today and let it sit.....all I did was rinse it off and it came back looking like new. Now I have to clean the rest of the pu and on top of the awning....everything looks dirty.

FoxyladiesThanks for the tip.  Mine looks dirty too.  The last time I had it out I noticed some black stuff on one of the " windows"  - it looked like mildew.  Do you think those products would be good for windows too?

FoxyladiesI don t know.....I also cleaned my screen room and had no problems but if you were to see the pants I was wearing, they are discolored....bleach spots. The stuff is real powerful. Maybe someone else would know what you could use.

FoxyladiesIf it worked for you fine, but last year we had a go around on what to use for mildew. I contacted P&G about Tilex and their reply stated that it was for use on hard sealed surfaces such as tile or fiberglass surrounds only and most likely would cause damage to fabrics including vinyls.
The " canvas"  used on most PU s will withstand some bleaching. The problem comes in when it s hits the thread sewing the PU together. No only isn t it UV resistant, but it s not bleach resistant either. Tends to " rot away" .

Plexus is the best product to use for cleaning clear vinyl windows.  If it is mildew, I don t know if it will clean that, but Plexus works great for cleaning the windows in general.

FoxyladiesFor vinyl windows I use Murphy s Oil Soap diluted with warm water.  Leaves the vinyl clean and flexible.  On the canvas for mildew I use Scrubbing Bubbles Mildew Stain remover, leave it on for just a minute or two, and rinse very well with lots of water.  Let the canvas dry thoroughly and then retreat with water proofing.  The Scrubbing Bubbles brand is foamy and doesn t run so you can put it right where you want it for smaller spots of mildew.

FoxyladiesI know from using it, tilex is mainly bleach.

When I worked in a daycare, we used bleach water and pinsol (pine smelling cleaner). I now do this at home, but since there are small children I can use more bleach and less water.

I sometimes get the Dollar Tree cleaner with bleach and when empty make my own. I would use this diluted mixture on the vinyl, but not the full strength Tilex.
I need to do that next time I have the awning out! before I put our the " Stuff"  under the awning.

FoxyladiesPlease be cautious when using chlorine bleach on vinyl, as it can damage the surface as well as the thread. Long-term campers in Florida swear by Purex, which uses a non-chlorine bleach. It s in a blue bottle. My favorite is Crown Spray Power, found in some Wal-Marts. It really is good.

FoxyladiesThe PUT store used to have a really good awning cleaner.  You might check there.  I would be careful using products with a lot of bleach or abrasive cleaners.

FoxyladiesTo be honest, I wish the rain would take it down and ruin it so I could get a new one from my insurance company. This awning is 7 years old so there is a dip when its out....I ve tried many ways to keep it taunt.....but it doesn t work. I bought this pu used and I don t think they lower it on one side for the rain  to roll off.[:@]
