Reading Danusmom s post about brakes reminds me of a question I ve been meaning to ask and just never got around to.  Here tis :

I notice that when I ve been doing some serious pulling of our PU or Hybrid, both with electric brakes, the front wheels of my F150 TV will be covered with a fine film of rust colored " dust."   Sometimes it seems not to happen and sometimes more than usual.  Is this indicative of something amiss or something that needs to be checked?  The brakes seem to work fine, but just wondering if something is dragging or rusting or what?

 Any thoughts?

 WayfarerThat s brake pad dust!
Your grinding down your brake pads.

 WayfarerSounds like brake dust.

WayfarerYea, kinda figured it was brake dust.  What I m wondering is what, if anything, can or needs to be done about it?  Am I doing something wrong or is this just the natural order of things?  I only notice all the dust after I ve been towing for awhile.  Could I have the electric brake controller set too light and therefore am using the TV brakes to stop both the TV and the RV?

 Appreciate your comments...

WayfarerNormal.  Get it all the time.  Bet you ve gotten it when you weren t towing and just never noticed.  Also, if your like me and wash your TV often, you won t see much because it won t have the time to build up.

PS: Washing the TV is a fine way to cool off during " Super Summer"  here in Texas![8D]

WayfarerI refuse to wash my cars, new construction site, dust covers everything at 2 hours. Come live with us wayfarer [;)]

SactoCampers

WayfarerThey make stiff bristled brushes that brush away the brake dust, so no need to go through all the effort of waiting in line at the car wash!
