RE: Killer Thunderstorm

Just reading an article in the paper about 5 people getting struck by lightening while camping in Salt Lake City, Utah.
 
 Looks like they were under a tree when the lightening struck.  Mom and Dad were killed and three kids in the hospital.  Parents were 34 years old.
 
 Last line of article " The parents sat in metal chairs."

This is a sad story.
 
 I can understand that children may not understand about metal chairs, but I cannot believe that people are that dumb.  I do see people scramble for trees when it rains, but have never seen them take anything metal with them.
 
 My prayers to the family and hopes that the children will be OK.  Hope there is a strong supportive family for the children.

It is a tragic thing that happened - my prayers go out to all those affected and I do hope that the children are well taken care of both physically and emotionally.
 I think it would be wise to have a section of this site that reads..." what to do if" ... and folks can find out how to stay safe in certain situations.  I was unsure as to how safe a pop-up was in a T-storm and was delighted to get info on it from certain folks onboard and some site that I was referred to (can t remember now).  But I think a " safety segment"  on this site would be a great idea.
 Some folks here got caught in a tornado last summer I remember and many of us have been caught in frightening T-storms with near hurrican conditions.  We may know " what to do"  but some of the folks on this board - may not.  I think it s a valuable bit of info to have don t you?
 We could have safety info on weather as well as what to do incase of a medical emergency (i.e., snake bite, bee sting, burns, etc...) Folks can print it and keep it in their campers...

This is a very very good idea ......... I hope this gets done . it is very important for people who are just starting out like me.
 

 Great minds seem to think alike -- but some may not think we have great minds.  We just have too much time on our hands (actually for those wondering -- I m at work during the day, and sneak peaks here to see what s going on or I d get too lost and frustrated for too much to read)[]

Also this past weekend a family was struck by lightning at kanobels campground in PA. they were not killed as the strike hit the ground near them they were just " shocked" .
