I purchased a New Coleman Mesa in May of this year. The dealer installed a Reese friction sway control. Today while getting ready for a two week camping trip to Maine I noticed that one of the bolts holding the small ball attached to the frame was broken(head of bolt sheared off). [:o] While taking off the plate that holds the ball I found another bolt had been sheared off also although the head of the bolt was still intact. A quick call to the dealer and a quick trip w/DS and the dealer gave me the replacement bolts. He said that when they first started installing these in the spring they were using an over zealous air wrench and they since have been installing them by hand. A word to the wise to check this if you have this set up.

CampChiefThanks for the info. This is very timely for me, as I plan to purchase and install the Reese friction sway control this week.

 One more question:

Can the Reese friction sway control be mounted on either the curb side, or road side? And for the adaptor plate for the ball mount, can this be used for either road or curb side mounted sway control.

Since the tongue jack/wheel is on the curb side, I need to be able to mount the sway control on the road side.

 Thanks....

 CampChiefSteve,

Are you sure your jack is on the curb side?  I thought all Coleman jacks were on the street side.

If you check out my [link=http://www.title-3.com/Sway.htm]Sway Information Page[/link] you will see photos of my Reese Friction Sway Control at the bottom.

But in answer to your question, yes they can be set up on both sides of the A frame.

tim5055Tim, thanks, your pictures are very informative. My tongue jack is welded on, and I m about 90% certain that it s on the passenger/curb side. I certainly have been known to be incorrect!

 CampChiefSteve-o,
My 00 Niagara has the jack mounted on the curb side too. Wonder if it was a 00 model thing? I used the ACAR sway control, it mounts very similar to the Reese and several other units. I don t think the stand-a-lone sway controls care which side they are mounted on.

CampChiefI instaled an Eaz-lift on my  95 10  Jayco. They come in a left or right hand model for about $100. It was worth every penny!
