I m always disappointed with the lack of campground reviews in this section, so I ve decided to do one a week and hope to inspire others to be more forthcoming, too.  I ve chosen this park because it is only a couple miles from home and is NEVER even close to busy.  It is located between two main thoroughfares (State Hwy. 52 and Mission Gorge Rd.) where highway noise is audible, but not overwhelming.  We set the camper up there about a year ago to make some repairs and test some mods.  We asked a bunch of grandkids to come, too, and a good time was had by all....except maybe for the one who was chewed on by mosquitoes....it was late July.  This is a small, odd campground that is closed on Tues. and Wed. to give the rangers some time off.  I find that strange, since there are camphosts.....whatever.  It is about 10 miles from the ballpark, 15 miles from downtown, Seaworld, the Zoo, etc., and maybe 20 miles from the beach.  All are easy commutes.  In the late summer, it is HOT (read that high 90 s and low 100 s) and there may be a rattlesnake or two, but the rest of the time it is quite pleasant.  The San Diego River is dammed up here and there is a small lake, easy and hard walking and cycling trails, rock climbing and some people fish here (I never have).  The sites are blacktopped and level and mostly sunny til the trees get a little bigger.  There are no hookups, but water is readily available.  There are solar-heated showers and clean (flush-toilet) restrooms, as well as outdoor sinks.  Our preteen grandkids loved that there was take-out pizza delivered to the camper door and all cell phones worked.  Website is www.mtrp.org where you ll find rates and more info.  Other questions?  email me......There now, that wasn t so hard.  See you next week with another report.

Hey cb!  Thank you for the review.  Your point is well taken that we could all add a review or two (or more) of the places that we have camped to help beef up the review section.  It s such a nice thing to have someone share their personal experiences with a cg--better than just a boilerplate blurb in some national review site.  It s one of the things that adds even more value to being a member of this forum--and value is certainly something we all want for our money, but it is also something that depends on and starts with us.

Anyway, thanks again for your review and noble aspirations!  You have inspired me to do my part too! [:D]

griffsmomAlso remember to change the display from " last 30 days"  to " all topics" . There s two pages of reviews. We haven t posted nearly as many as we could, but there is more than suggested by the default setting.
