RE: A new discovery

We just realized that we can shut the small (Short) door ..youknow...the one you can open and close while popped down....well, we discovered we can shut it and LOCK it into place, therefore prohibiting anyone from opening the large door when popped up!!!
 
 What does this mean to us?!  Well, when we leave the campgrounds for a long time, we know that at least no one can simply walk in.  If they wanted to get into the camper, they d have to break the small door to get to open the large door or go through velcro.  Both of which would draw attention.
 
 I got this idea from another couple of campers at Cooper Lake SP (you know who you are) when they used this method to keep the kids from entering and exiting the camper continuously.

We can lock the Starcraft we own and we usually do it by lifting up the Velcro instead of bothering with the key. The top part of the door locks by pushing over the cheap little plastic things but we only use those at night.  We lock ours when we go away because our cat works at opening the door when he wants to go out and we are afraid he might suceed sometime.

Just about enough security to keep the honest people honest.
 
 But on the other hand, also just enough security to stall a thief for about 5 seconds, which may be enough motivation for him or her to choose the next target and leave you alone.

We used to do the same thing with our Coleman Santa Fe.  We figured it was just enough to make a would-be thief move to the next camper even though we knew you just had to pop the velcro along the door or on the bunks to get in.    The point is to give them enough obstacles so they think twice about just waltzing in your camper.

Yes, you can do this.  It will also give those who wish to enter your PU a reason to cut your tenting, screening or shock cording to get in.  No matter what you do, it s a whole lot easier to get into your PU then the MH or TT parked next to you.  I d as soon leave the PU open so they can just walk in and see that I ve left nothing worth taking.

True, you can get into the tenting, But if you lock this door, it will draw more attention to someone handing things out the bunkend, than just passing thru the door. The other campers may realize, (probably not) that someone is doing what they aren t supposed to be doing. True, if they want it, they will get it. But I make it as hard as I can for them to get it.

If I was a crook I would just go to a Coleman dealer and say I lost my popup key.  Then I could open them all.

And as an additional security note on this thread.....Lock the lock when the step is down so no one can LOCK you in.  I know its easy to get out when the step is up but it takes just enough time that a thief could use to get away.

We have our stove on the door so I never felt like moving it just to lock the door.  I figured I never had anything worth taking place we are always in nice places that do not have problems.

We don t keep anything of value in the PU.  I would rather someone open the door and look around than to have someone cut the canvas.
 
 You will need 2 keys to get into all of the Coleman PUs.  The older trailers had a different key.
