Hello!

Can you suggest some good ocean front campgrounds in Maine, New Hampshire or Massachusettes?

Thanks!

Massachusetts- Horseneck Beach State Park, Near Westport, MA- Not all that clean but RIGHT on the waterfront. Easy walk to a large beach.

Maine- Hermit Island Campground- Small Point, ME- Not much for "planned" activities, but about 7 beaches some of which you will be the only ones on!

Our kids are grown, we like State Park type camping. We don't need power or water. I have batteries and an inverter and we carry or buy water. We love the ocean, wild life and the quiet to enjoy both! Have not stayed in any ocean front CG in New Hampshire as we generally head to Northern NH to see Moose, etc.

thanks!  we'll check those out as we are planning our Summer 2004 camping trips.  I especially like the idea of having a beach all to myself, so I'll have to check out Hermit Island.

We have a 14 and 10 year old, so we usually look for a campground with things to keep them busy.  But you never know how much you may like those quieter campgrounds until you try them.

I live within 45 minutes of Hermit Island campground but I have never been there. I have heard from others it is a great campground, quiet but nice with the beaches. Someone from this board went there last year and I drove over to see if I could find them. They have a "No Visitors" policy. I couldn't get in to look the CG over either. I guess it is because they have mostly single lane dirt roads and do not want to get them crowded with visitors and people not serious about camping there. They did tell me that I was welcome to come down in the off-season and drive around the CG.

Chasd60, Yeah the roads are a "trip"! Some of them are actually rock ledges and not dirt or sand! We've stayed there 3 times and hope to do a week there next Summer. There are few "planned" activities but there usually is a volleyball or ping pong game going on near the snack bar. There are some hiking trails, that even though they are not challenging are quite nice. One goes along some cliffs and rocks over Casco Bay. If you go in hot weather, try for a site near flush toilets as the pit toilets can be a little rank to use!

Horseneck Is The Best And Our Favorite But It Does Get Booked Up Very Quickly And The Conditions In The Bathrooms Are Not Very Clean. Our Second Favorite Is Salisbury Beach State Reservation, Always Fun Here,  Where You Have The Long Beach On The Ocean Side Where Most People Go And The You Have The Small Beach On The Merrimac River Side Where You Can Take Your Dog And Not Be Bothered With Alot Of People. Plenty Of Room To Go Bike Riding And The Center With All The Excitement Is Very Close And Nice To Have There.  Have Fun !!   We Do !!  Cya There.

Please elaborate, why was it horrid? I have heard nothing but good things up until now.
