whitestar505STAY AWAY from anything Oregon Scientific. [:@] Every weather radio they have ever made has been recalled at least once.  They don t have an algorythm capable of detecting all possible S.A.M.E. codes, and they keep having to fix it.

Mine has been recalled 5-6 times.[:@][:@][:@]

The reception is poor.  PJay s clock radio with weather gets much better reception than my $100+ Oregon Scientific dedicated weather unit with S.A.M.E.

I have heard of other people having trouble with them as well.

whitestar505I have a Motorola and it works great as long as you are within 40 miles +/- of the transmitter. It s been soaked and dripping water from the INSIDE and, once dried out works fine!
I also have a GE Family Radio System type walkie talkie that has a NOAA Weather Radio built in that I got at Wally World and it works great too. It s smaller so easier to use while kayaking, hiking or Cross Country Skiing!

whitestar505WE have on from Radio Shack works great and they have a great return policy should you ever have any trouble... We have not had any trouble....

whitestar505I have a Radio Shack, plugs in and battery back-up and alarms etc.

It has always worked well when I have used it. We leave the alarm turned off, cause they give too many alarms. If there is a thunderstorm 50 miles away it went off. So I just turn it on when I want instead.

whitestar505We have a Midland radio that we got at Sam s Club.  It was originally around $50 and now on clearance for around $20.

whitestar505Guess we are in the minority or just lucky.  We have a handheld Oregon Scientific radio and so far no problems.  We really like it...compact and dependable.  Ours does recognize SAME codes (have to enter them in).   Down fall I see is lenghty complicated instructions for setup written in very small font.
