I brought our 2001 Bayside out of our new three car tandem garage to get a few things out and when I started to crank, I didn t hear the familar " clicking"  noise that we are all familiar with. (I think that the main cause of this is that I was lured into cranking up with a " Friend s"  18v power drill) Jeff- J/K
Any how, The ratchet didn t catch until I got to the top. When I was cranking down, It was not going down correctly.
I called my dealer this morning, and he said that before I bring it in I should re-crank the camper up and at the top, give it an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn and that should " free up"  the racheting device.
 Any thoughts?
I checked the crank box and even lubed it with some wd-40.
 Thanks!!

The Memory MakerYour dealer is giving you good advice.  Over cranking at the top will re-engage the clutch mechanism.

It is detailed on [link=http://www.fft-inc.com/partsbooks/owners_manuals/pdf_files/01_omgrand.pdf]page 17 of the 2001 Owners Manual[/link] in the section titled Crank-Up/Crank-Down Lift System.

Ya see, there s your problem Scott,
Owning a 3 car tandem garage,
while most people have a single car tandem garage[;)]

The same happened to ours once, and we did the same, cranked it all the way up, and it fixed the problem.
Only thing you did wrong was to use WD-40 on the crank box,
cuz there s a whiffle of something in there that doesn t like to be lubricated to do it s job correct.[&:]

The Memory MakerAnd here I thought you were giving us some good news about some weird disease not being contagious[8D][8D][8D]

The Memory MakerI heard the " root cause"  of this problem was cranking too much after the roof was down. Yes? No? Maybe?

YES, your first answer is the right one.[:D]

 The Memory MakerScott,
 Did that fix work?
I ve used the drill at least 15 times now (camping and to work on the PU) and have never had a problem like that.
I ll be sure to kick back and watch you hand-crank your roof up in Tahoe next month, ha.
Guess I ll have to have NNC ers sign a waiver now before they borrow my drill, lol.
Seriously, I hope your roof is working properly now.

Gone-Camping

The Memory MakerI ve also experienced this, just do like they said and crank it up and add in a little bit of over-crank. Just beware, don t let go of that handle on the way up since the ratchet is not engaged, it ll just start to come back down on you.

 The Memory MakerCliff good point.

The Overmans

The Memory MakerI just experenced this phenom on my 2002 UTAH.  The cause acording to my dealer in Houston, was over cranking when coming down.  The fix was you already know to crank it all the way to the top.  Just watch the cranking when coming down.

Yep, both Chasd60 and Tracy are right.  We learned this one the hard way. [:)]  And TMM, your dealer is right too.  Next time you crank it up, give it a good one at the top and that should solve your problem.  It worked for us. [:D]
