I am a relatively new PU owner and am looking for some advice about my A/C unit, we don t use it all that often but it really comes in handy when we do. I have a Coleman Mach that came with our 2002 Flagstaff, the first couple of times we used the A/C it seemed to run great, last weekend we used it one hot and muggy night during a rain storm and it seemed to be cycling completely on and off at about 6-7 minute intervals. Usually the fan runs continuously whether the compressor is pumping cold air or not, so I thought it was unusual to completely shut off, not to mention it didn t really cool down the PU much. Has anyone else experienced this, also what type of regular maintenance do the A/C units require.

 Thanks!

Big DogUnderstand I am not an A/C mechanic, but......... last August, our Mach unit also began to malfunction while running during a thunderstorm.  First it blew out a smelly mist, followed by cool then room temp air.  The fan did not shut down but the compressor did.  Turns out the problem was blown capacitors ( there are two ).  Dealer replaced both for about $ 180 and A/C has been perfect ever since.  There is no maintenance for these units other than cleaning of the filters ( inside ) every 50 or so hours of usage ad replacing yearly if needed.  Good luck

Big DogThanks, I cleaned the filters this spring, I may hook it up this weekend and if the same problem occurs I will take it to the dealer and have them take a look at the unit.

[:o][:o]The sad part about this is that the capacitors are most probably only a few bucks each.  It may be possible to replace yourself.  Check with mfg and see how difficult it is.
