Quote from: brainpauseAs for the 18 wheeled reefers, I believe their fridge also runs on diesel. You usually see a small tank near the front "legs" of the trailer. I stand to be corrected though.
No need for that; you're right, the big rigs use diesel for their refrigeration units.

I have a guy that works with me that used to work at a plant where frozen food was made. He worked in the freezers and loaded the outgoing trucks. The refigeration units on trailers are "ran by a diesel enginge". He said several times that they would load trailers and then not be able to get the units started and the entire load would thaw out in the trailer at the dock. Also the freezer units at the plant used ammonia like in a p/u refigerator. They were not allowed to wear contact lenses in the freezers because if an ammonia leak happened it would melt the contacts to their eyes. So if you wear contacts and smell ammonia in your p/u get them out of your eyes or get out of the p/u.

If CBBT means Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel the answer is you are allowed to have propane tanks, but the tanks have to be turned off.  I am not sure what the HRBT is, but I know that you can tow with 2-20 pound propane tanks across the CBBT and over all the bridges and through all the tunnels on I-64.  We did that this past summer on the way to the Eastern Rally.

Quotenot sure what the HRBT is
Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel on I-64 between Norfolk and Hampton....

The simple answer is NO, tanks are allowed, but as pointed out, they must be turned off.

On the approach to the tunnels signs are posted stating "All vehicles with gas bottles must stop for inspection" and there is an inspection station just prior to the Bridge/Tunnel on the approach from each end. If you're in a camper or a truck with gas bottles you MUST stop, where the DMV tunnel flunkie will step out and ask if your propane is turned off. Most of the time you just drive up, hold your hand in the air and motion in a twisting fashion, and they will wave you on....we locals all know the drill.

Failure to stop sometimes means nothing, but that is only if they don't see you blow on by the inspection station. Nine times out of ten they see you, and radio ahead. By the time you actually get to the tunnel entrance you'll see all the lights are red, and traffic has been completely halted several vehicles ahead of you. Then they will wave cars through one at a time until they get to you, at which point you'll be instructed to pull over to the tunnel service area where they will check your propane tanks, then they MAY provide you with a nice citation for failure to stop. If they are in a good mood or very busy they might just let ya go!!!
