Our house sold on August 15.  We cleaned it out to the bare walls, vaccumed, swept, etc.  All of our stuff ended up in three places...a 24  Ryder truck, a 12  U-Haul trailer, or a dumpster.  If you want to know how precious your stuff is, try making instant decisions as to where each item was going...with about 25% of it going in the dumpster.

We closed the deal and handed over the keys.  We don t live in Massachusetts any more.

An unlikely caravan made it s way to western New York.  A Ryder Truck pulling a U-Haul Trailer, followed by an Astro Van with a car top carrier and 5 bikes.  (The Taj MaHaul was brought out to Minnesota several weeks ago).  There, we added another driver and another vehicle.

In all, 8 of us worked for 5-1/2 hours unloading our stuff (much of which seemed less and less valuable the more we moved it) into a sorage unit.  It was over 100 degrees, one of the hottest days of the year in Ham Lake.

Now, while waiting for the deal to close on our new house, we are technically homeless.  But we ve lived out of the Taj MaHaul before.  There is value in not having TV or schedules or microwaves or income.

You have time for naps.  It s OK to sit and read.

 More later...

AustinBostonI was unable to finish my original post, so here is the rest...

Our stuff is in storage, and we are staying in the pop-up at a quiet little campground about 1-1/2 miles from the new house.  It makes it convenient to swing by the house and check on things.  They are replacing the roof and installing a new septic system.

After putting things in storage, we took PJay s sister & BIL to the airport to fly back to Orlando.  They re a great couple.  They flew up at their own expense to help us load/unload and to drive the truck. (They re both CDL drivers.  PJay s sister even drove tow truck for years.  Imagine backing a 12  trailer (that you can t see in the mirrors) with a 26,000 lb truck.  She backed that thing in ways I would not have been able, even with the van.)  I was shocked to find that you must be 25 to rent a tiny car, but you only have to be 18 to rent a 13 ton truck (and 2-ton trailer).

Now PJay, her Mom (Travler77) and DD#2 are on their way to Philadelphia to bring DD#2 to college.

Mail is supposed to be forwarded to here (general delivery) but is not arriving after 5 days.

Internet access is only through the library, so I ll only be here once in a while to keep folks up-to-date.

QuoteI suspect you ll be calling yourself Austin-St.Paul or something now?

I think I ll go with AustinMN, but I m not sure.  Austin, Minnesota is the home of SPAM, and I m in no hurry to be associated with SPAM.

Closing is currently sheduled for September 11.  PJay will be starting second semester.  DS is registered to start in the 8th grade on Sept. 2.  They allowed us to do that based on the Purchase Agreement.

Oh, and as far as the snow is concered, the winter of 2002-2003 had less snow here than in Eastern Mass.

Austin (wondering how long it will take until living here feels like home)

AustinBostonWelcome to MN.  Unfortunately, you did hit it right at the hottest time of the summer!  But unlike those down south, here there is relief in sight.  This weekend it is supposed to just be in the 70 s or 80 s and around 60 at night.  The perfect camping weather!  We are heading up to Cambridge camping this weekend so will probably be passing right by you tomorrow on the way.  Which campground are you staying at?  What is it like?

Hope everything goes ok and on time with your house and you feel at home soon!

tlhdoc

AustinBostonAB glad you got there safely.  Have a good time at the campground and good luck with the new house.

Mahaffey-Family

AustinBostonWe have been there.  We lived in an Econo Lodge for 3 months,  our home was to be finished before we arrived.  Needless to say we arrived and it wasn t finished.  The kids loved the Motel because it had a tractor place beside it and after it closed in the evening they played hide and seek there.  They really want to go back there.

Good Luck on everything.

AustinBostonCongratulations on selling the house, and glad you all made it to MN in one piece. You did hit one of the hottest weeks of the year, but it shouldn t last too long.  Enjoy living in your camper, winter will be coming all too soon!

If you need any help while your there shoot me an email. My sister lives in Andover, and the rest of my family is near by too!  You could probably also live on my sisters land if you get kicked out of the campground LOL.

 AustinBostonAustin,
Take this from someone who moved every 2 years like clock work...(I was a military brat)[:D] If you have to move it more than 3 times...BURN IT! The longer I stay in one place the more crap I accumulate. The best years of my life were/are when I had little or no possesions...nothing to worry about. " Don t worry...be happy!" [8D] BTW enjoy the extended " camping"  trip. LOL
