I have a waterpur filter in my popup and it needs replacement. I ve called around and I m hearing $30 for a new filter (and yes, i ve made sure that does not include the canister).  So now I m thinking I d like to replace it with a new filter system from Home Depot so that the filters are readily available and inexpensive. Has anyone done this ? Is there any reason I should not do this ? Thanks !

homecrewIf it is a canister type with replaceable filter cartridge take the cartridge with you and check if it s a common size. There are only a few sizes for " residential"  water cartridges and hopefully you can find a " same sized"  replacement.

homecrewHere is a recent thread on water filters that might be of some help to you: http://www.popuptimes.com/members/tm.asp?m=33989&appid=&p=&mpage=1&key=water%2Cfilter&language=single&tmode=&s=#33989

I m thinking of going the faucet-mounted PUR filter route.  I like the idea of being able to turn it on or off depending on whether I ll be consuming the water or only using it for washing up or other non-drinking uses.  [:)]

homecrewWe have one PUR dispenser for camping and one for use at home (keep it in the refrigerator for cold water on tap).

I would stay away from the faucet mounted ones for one main reason. They do not easily pass water (force pushes it through) and cause a back pressure on your faucet washers. You ll be replacing them, because of leakage, every few filters. We originally had a PUR filter on our home faucet (the water here is awful) and had the problem twice.

homecrewTopcat thanks for the info on the filter.  I was thinking of adding one and now I don t think I will.
