Man here in the deep south it has been a hot one and I am ready for cooler temps. I know for many of you in the northern parts, your camping season will be coming to a close in the next two or three months, but for us our camping season is really just getting ready to begin. To me camping just isn t complete without a campfire and down here, it s just too darn hot for a campfire. Am I the Lone Ranger on this or are there more of you out there that are starting to get excited about winter camping?

CajunCamperBesides the rain[:@], we are just now getting the hot and miserable weather.  Our temps this week have been the highest for the season and heat index reaching or exceeding 100[:@].

I sure hope our camping season continues for several months, but I too am ready for some cooler (not cold) weather.

 I want to camp[:D][:D][:D]

CajunCamperEvery year about this time I start to think about those beautiful early fall blue skies, and how the air feels so crisp when you first get up in the morning.   How every leaf and branch stands out against the sky in the light from a sun at a lower level.   I remember being a kid in autumn, laying on my back in the grass with my friends, saying, " Oh Look!!  That one looks like a poodle dog!"  as we point out the big fluffy clouds.  And how the house smells so good while the apple crisp is baking, and the pot of chili is bubbling on the back of the stove.   I love the fall, and for camping it s just the best.   No more skeeters, black flies, just a few bees and wasps left,  and the smell of the woods is like heaven.   Cool enough at night to cuddle in a soft blanket, warm enough in the daytime to wear shorts, and still swim occassionally and just right to sit around a fire in the evening.   I love the sound of the tree frogs and cicadas.   Why can t fall be the longest season???

CajunCamperNope we re right with you. We haven t been out since we got back from up north in June, and are now looking at when we can start camping again. Even though we have air, if we re stuck in the camper all weekend, it s just not camping, and it s been too hot to be outside.

right now heat index of 100 would be cool here, the other night (around 8:30pm) the temp got down to 96, but the heat index was 110!! UGH

CajunCamperWE had one of those teaser weekends this past weekend...and of course, we had plans and couldn t camp. It was absolutely gorgeous. 81, clear blue sky, and very low humidity. It was just a tease however....back to the 90s this week, hot, humid, and rain, rain, rain at some point most every day....  ugh...

Yep..I m looking forward to cool weather. I ll have a campfire most any time though.   I just have to sit further away! [;)]

CajunCamperWe have been camping all summer, but I am still looking forward to our favorite time of the year to camp, fall.

CajunCamperHot here, too. (North Carolina) We are going camping this weekend, and I am afraid it is going to be some of the warmest weather we have had this summer.  My popup does not have an AC, but that could change if the DW gets too hot!

I really like camping in the winter.  My son & I went on several trips last winter & had a great time.  He is 5 years old & really did well adapting to the cold.  We would have our campfire a little early (near suppertime) & stay warm in the camper while we played games.  I have a Mr Heater & a CO monitor just to be safe.  We tap the heater to the large propane tank & keep the windows cracked.

Thanks for reminding me of cooler months ahead!  I feel better already.

 CajunCamperMe too,

Here in Georgia, we are just about coming in to the great camping season.  Summer is just too darn hot down here for a fire, and during the day we find ourselves stuck in the camper  trying to stay cool.

Fall is my best season with the leaves turning, college foot ball on the set, nights are cool, and most of the summer tourist campers are gone.

Yeah..... I m with you.... bring on the camping!!!!

     Keep your kindling dry

CajunCamperWelcome back, CajunCamper.  We are grateful for your help in the past, and I know the Newbies will be picking your brain soon!  We, too, are waiting for camping season to start.  Other than a few camping trips to the beach, we ve been sticking pretty close to home this summer.  And, it s been sooooo hot...for San Diego, anyway.  We bought Popupgizmos bunk end covers and will try them out next week in the Eastern Sierras.  Then it should be good to go for Mexico in October and the Anza Borrego Desert soon thereafter.  Can hardly wait.  Keep posting!

CajunCamperYup, I m tired of the heat, too.

We went back to school last Wednesday (the 20th) and we ve been released early 4 times already due to the heat.  There are two public schools here in Staunton, Va., that don t have a/c and it s miserable by lunch time.  I m just glad that the school board and central office people (who have a/c) are realizing how hot it is and how the kids can t possibly learn in a room that s 100 plus degrees.  Luckily I m downstairs where it only gets  in the 90 s.

And, fall is my favorite time to camp!

Gone-Camping

CajunCamperWe ve had the coolest summer that I can remember having around here, but it s been overcast and rainy most of the summer. However, in the last week or so the weather patterns have changed to a more normal summer, and it s now hot & humid. As for one who works outside most of the time, I actually have enjoyed the cool summer, and glad the extremely hot weather will be VERY short this year! It may have been different in other parts of the state, but here in the Norfolk/Va Beach area it s been very different this year!

Today was 96§ with heat index of 112§ which is way too much for this  relocated Yankee
