OC Campers

After readin the Grays post about the Eastern Sierras, i had to get my two cents worth in. Our favorite place o go is the Twin Lakes area near Bridgeport. We camp at Paha or Robinson Creek camgrounds. They are national Forrest campgrounds that are nice but have no hookups. Robinson creek runs through the campground and Twin Lakes are right up the road.
I like this area because even when the campgrounds are full, it never seems that crowded. The trout fishing is always good and even the biggest rookie or smallest child can catch fish with a little effort. There is ample hiking nearby, my eldest daughters favorite hike being a nine mile round trip hike to Barney Lake. A relatively easy hike that takes you up to about 10,000 ft altitude.

Pretty much can t bea it.

As a kid, we used to go fishing in the June Lake area every year. We d stay at the Boulder Lodge. From time to time, my job takes me up to Bishop, Mammoth, Lee Vining, etc.

I wanted to take my step dad up there this summer, to camp and fish, (kind of a repayment for all that he has done, and continues to do for our family), unfortunately, my mom fell and broke her hip, so my step dad couldn t get away.

Maybe next year. I will keep this campground in mind, our original thought was to camp near Gull Lake, on th June Lake loop.

OC CampersIsn t it fun?  I enjoyed your info and we will add the Twin Lakes area to our next adventure.. As to the " any rookie can catch a fish" ... well, we tried that in Mammoth and I think the biggest thing we caught was a log![:D]  It didn t help that our 2 year old was tossing rocks the whole time...

BTW, is anyone familiar with the Virginia Lakes area?  Thanks...

OC CampersWe have driven up there a few times but have never camped.   It is very beautiful. but can be very cold too.  I believe it is 9,000 ft elevation.  We went up there in June one year and the lake was still frozen and a lot of snow on the ground.

ps  We have a 2 year old also and if throwing rocks in the creek/lake keeps him busy and happy the fish can wait[:D]
