I ve seen several campers with a hanging light made out of white(PVC?) tubing.  There are many different designs with colored beads.  We have yet to run across a camper who makes and sells them but that is where everyone who has one has found them.  I think they sell for around $50.  Anyway, I thought if there were plans/instructions somewhere I might be able to make one.  Anyone have a clue what I m talking about?

PopUpTrioI m going to hazzard a guess here.

What I have seen people use, and what I use is called " rope light" .  It is a clear plastic tube (they also sell it in colors) in lengths up to around 50 feet.  Along the length of the tube are small lights every 4 - 6 inches.  I have one about 25 feet long that I put around the top of the pop up when I want tacky lights.

It is available in many RV stors but is much cheeper at Home Depot.  Look in the lighting seciton.

 PopUpTrioLindy,

Is this exactly what you are looking for?

Patty bought this charming item at one of the club campouts a couple of years ago.  We have looked everywhere for the name of the place that sold this to us because they had a website but we ve been unable to find it.   I know that Russell Fife has one similar and he ll be at the September campout at Dinosaur Valley SP so maybe he will know who made these.

PopUpTrioTim5055:...Thanks, but I have the ropelight...see the next post after yours from Trlrboy and he has a picture of the exact light I m talking about.

Trlrboy:   That s it...should ve known you had one!...We aren t going to Dinosaur so I ll have to keep looking.

 PopUpTrioHi Chad and Lindy,

DW s parents are full time RVers with a big rig. A couple of years ago they made us one of the lights you are asking about.

They are very easy to make. They bought everything they needed at Wal-Mart. Basically, you buy the size of plastic flower pot you want to use. Then get an assortment of colored beads that suit what you are designing. You then start drilling holes the same size of the beads in the pattern you like. Hot glue the beads in the hole.

For the lamp, buy a lamp kit in the electrical department. Drill a hole for the base of the socket, and mount it. Thread your wiring through and wire the socket. For hanging, they just drilled two additional holes and threaded nylon cord and tired two knots.

 Pretty simple overall.

Below is a link to our camping journal that has a picture of the lamp they made for us.

Enjoy and have fun designing and making your lamp.

PopUpTrioI made one too. I use it in the AAR for a night lite because I made mine using a nite light socket. I bought one of the flowered plastic flower pot and the lights they use for the ceramic christmas trees. I drilled holes where they would look good in the pot and hot glued the lights into the holes. Whole project took less then 2 hours. It was a good rainy day camp project. Wired it up and now it hangs in the AAR from one of the poles and we have enough light to move around without disturbing others. If we need task lighting I will turn on the outside lite or fire up the coleman.
