Luckily, it wasn t the tow vehicle, but my little old 1996 Dodge Stratus, that, up until 2pm yesterday afternoon, looked like it had just come off the show room floor.

Just sitting in a line of traffic at a stop light and an elderly gent in a Ford F-150 rammed me in the rear. He thinks he hit the gas instead of the brake. Not a lot of damage- just a broken tail light section and crumpled bumper, but MAN did I get thrown forward. I was wearing my seat belt, so I got pulled back again. My back was killing me, right smack in the middle, but ER x-rays showed no bone damage.

So now it s plenty of Motrin and rest for a few days. Then we need to get insurance straight (ugh) and get the car in for an estimate.

Fun, fun, fun. But, I was oddly relieved it wasn t the tow vehicle! [8D][:D]

kathybrjGlad to hear you are OK!  Take it easy and rest your back.

kathybrj[:(][:(] OUCH -- I m sure today is even worse than yesterday..  Take care and rest the back.  I d say sounds like a good time to camp and relax, but I m sure your bed is more comfortable.

Sorry to hear about your car also.  At least the damage sounds minimal.

 kathybrjNancy-

Thanks! I WISH my bed was more comfortable than the camper, but it just isn;t so. We are in desperate need of a new matress at home (this might get Blaise and I off our duffs to go looking and trying some out this weekend).

 Otherwise-yup, I m sore as heck today.

kathybrjAlso glad you are ok. [:D]  At another time check your seatbelt to see how much it stretched.  Most people are not aware that seatbelts are made to stretch in a big hit to cause an easier" ride down."   This is another way of saying that if the belt did not stretch then you could also have a broken collarbone or worst.  [8D]Most manuals will refer to having them replaced because of the stretch.  In the japenese cars, and some american they have  a certain amount of seatbelt webbing that is folded like an accordion and stiched so that when it is pulled hard the thread is designed to give, permitting more belt to be released resulting in an easier ride for the passenger.  Each stich will release depending upon the G force it receives.

Folks always make fun of people complaining about their neck hurting but it is a real issue that can occur and it does not feel very good.

 Hope you can rest.......good luck![:)]

kathybrjKathy I am so sorry for you.  I hope you recover from the accident quickly.

kathybrjI m sorry to hear about your crunch!!  The kids and I got crunched sandwich style a month ago and it was scary.  Kids had headaches and my neck and back were hurting and my left shoulder puffed up from the seat belt pulling so hard on me.  Make sure you take care of all your insurance papers and file reports, because you may need to have your back taken care of with some physical therapy to work out the kinks.  I ve unfortunately been having constant muscle spasms in between my shoulder blades since the accident which makes me so mad at the guy that hit us.  Insurance is picking up the physical therapy, don t know what I d do without it because those spasms really hurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you re feeling better soon!

kathybrjIt s a good idea not to accept any kind of settlement on the medical part until you are sure there wasn t any muscle and nerve damage.  Sometimes spinal things can show up later and give you a lot of pain.

kathybrjBeen there done that. Only it was a little bigger than an F150, try an International cabover truck with 56 foot trailer. If you aren t sure what a cabover truck is than if you are old enough to remember the seventies show BJ and the Bear. The truck in the show was a cabover. Believe it or not the truck you can find pictures of at the link below is the same truck I was driving.

QuoteMy back was killing me, right smack in the middle, but ER x-rays showed no bone damage.

Kathy, all that means is that the X-ray showed no BONE damage.  That will not show soft tissue damage. I m glad you weren t hurt worse, but please make sure your back and neck are 100% before signing off. Think you could handle being tackled from behind by a pro football player? That s the kind of shock your body took in that collision.  [:o]

Ab Diver--- who s seen more than his share of drivers, elderly or not, who couldn t tell the brake from the gas pedal, and is trying oh-so-hard not to comment on this other driver s probable ability to safely pilot a vehicle in the future...
