Yesterday, after work, I saw a Nissan Altima (I know they are a pretty decent sized car, but to pull a popup???) pulling a small popup. Did not recognize the name, but the licence confirmed my suspicions.

The Popup was a Bonair, the licence plates were from Quebec.  Granted the popup only looked to be about 7  box, but with a Nissan Altima??? Is that car actually heavy enough and have a decent wheel base?

SactoCampers

SheBantamAn  03 Altima has a wheelbase 1"  shorter than an  03 Astro Van and weighs 300-3250 lbs. It is by most accounts, a mid-size car.

I don t know the weight of a 7  Bonair, but if packed light, I don t imagine it is a problem. These issues tend to be self-correcting over time, anyway.

huh? does that mean if they shouldn t be towing it, it will just fall off over time?[&:]

No, it means if the car isn t fit to tow, the owners usually realize it quickly.

SheBantamI saw a motorcycle towing a small trailer yesterday, so if the camper was small and light enough, the Altima probably handled it ok. Hey, they made it from Canada down to Delware and they are still going!!! [;)]

SheBantamI had a 1998 Toyota Camry with a v-6 engine and it was rated to tow 2000 lbs.   At the time, Maxima s were rated to tow 1500-1800 lbs.

Before we bought our own pop-up, we borrowed a friend s 1980 s SMALL Starcraft pop-up. On our trip to Raystown Lake, we knew we were taking two tow vehicles -- one to tow the boat and one for the pop-up, so we loaded all of our heavy stuff into the truck and the boat.  My Camry handled that pop-up just fine. Almost didn t know it was back there.   It was only me in the car and some of our stuff, but nothing heavy like coolers full of food and drink.   I imagine if you travel light, the Altima wouldn t be a problem.

Of course, WE do NOT travel light, so WE went out and bought ourselves a big honkin  SUV! [:D]

SheBantamWe went up to Nova Scotia this year for about 8 days.  We were also surprised at some of the tow vehicles that our Northern neighbors use.

I guess we are more hung up about what our vehicles can tow safely.

By the way, I own a 2000 Alitima, 4 cyl, standard.  I wouldn t think of towing with it.  I like the car too much.

SheBantamI was a nervous wreck towing my camper with my previous TV (95 Grand Cherokee).  I loved the truck but I always felt it was just a little small if I really hit the brakes with my boat or PU hitched up.  I know it was all in my mind but growing up, my family TV was always a monster.

The Cherokee never gave me any reason to feel unsafe but the stress was killing me.  I have kept the Jeep but now have upgraded the TV to the Dodge.  It has been a miracle.  I can drive for hours and don t have white knuckles when I m done.  I m even looking forward to the trip rather than worrying about the drive.
