RE: Cleaning the Coleman Aluminum Roof

Our popup has been out in nasty weather for 2-1/2 years. Last year, the roof looked a bit dingy at the start of the season, but by the end it had begun to get black from exhaust fumes, acid rain and the sun. I tried cleaning it with hot, soapy water, Fantastic, and some other " always works cleaners"  to no avail. So, I just stuck it in its spot in the storage area for the winter & figured I would do something about it in the spring.

At the RV show today, there was an aluminum panel that looked exactly like my roof. It had the same deep black on it. I wet my finger, pushed it across the metal and got the same result...not clean. The company with the panel was selling a cleaner and sealer that supposedly would do the job.

I sprayed a little of the diluted cleaner on a Q-tip, wiped it on the aluminum,  swiped it with a towel & viola...NO MORE BLACK! Once clean & dry, you then spray the sealer on it and wipe it off to give protection against everything.

The cleaner is called " Streak-X"  and the sealer is " Seal n Glo"  both made by RVTech. The show special was $10 for each product in 1-qt spray bottles. Couldn t pass up a special so I got one of each. The temperature is in single digits where the popup is stored, so I won t be able to try them out right away. But, if you re interested in the products, try clicking [link=http://www.rvtech.com]HERE[/link].

I don t know if this is urban legend or if it really works.  In west Texas they get a lot of hail damage to cars.  I have known a few people from the area who claimed you can park the damaged car in hot sun in the middle of the summer.  Once everything gets really heated up, put a piece of dry ice on the ding.

The dry ice is supposed to make the hot metal contract quickly and the ding pops out.  If it really works on steel I don t know that it would work on aluminum as the metals expand and contract if different rates.

Only other suggestion is to try paintless dent repair suction cups sold on infomercials.  Local TV station tried them on some cars and found they work on small dents.  They had to use a stonger adhesive with the suction cups than directions specified.
