 About those TrailManors:

How hard are they to set up?  Can one person do it easily and quickly?  And, can you open it up while still attached to your TV?

Why I m asking this is that I am considering going into something other than a popup.  My wife is not all that excited about camping, although she goes along with it and tries to keep her grumbling to a minimum, but she is definitely not into what I want to do - go on extended trips to states either north, east, or west of Texas, be able to pull into a rest stop or Walmart or wherever when I get tired and go back to the trailer for a few Z s, a snack, potty break, etc., then secure the trailer and hit the road again headed to a " final"  destination to settle in for a few days.

The PU I know will not allow this, at least I can t handle it.  Every time I (we) set this beast up and/or take it down it s a real chore and definitely not a pleasant experience for us and threatens to end our 51 year marriage.

Do you who have TM s think they would fill the bill?  All I (we if she chooses to go along) need is a decent size bed and space to cuss the cat without getting hair in our mouths, plus potty, shower, decent kitchen, etc.  Don t want something huge and heavy as I ll likely stay with my F150.

If not the TM, any suggestions?

WayfarerLooked at TrailManors and feel they cost way too much for what you get.  Really didn t like the idea of giving up our king bed that we have in our Sea Pine.  Understand though that you have to keep your other half happy.

WayfarerWayfarer - I just spent the w/e with Civil War Buff/Larry next to us.  I m sure he will reply here once he see s your thread.  Yes, you can pop-up while still hitched to the TV.  In fact, this morning he hitched up and then popped down (takes him all of 3 minutes!).  This way he can access the bathroom right up until it s time to leave.  My parents were so impressed, they went to check them out.  They are very well made as far as I can tell!  I know Larry has no regrets and he had a Niagara previously.

 WayfarerWayfarer,

Jeff Neff was right, I zeroed in on the TM thread. [:)]  To answer your questions, Yes, they are as easy as they say, yes, one person can set the entire trailer up quite easily, and yes it can stay hitched up to the tv.

I got my TM because I have arthritis in my shoulders and it was getting very  difficult to crank up the Coleman, and I wanted something with added security, added insulation and a full bathroom, yet as easy (or easier) to tow as the Coleman. The TrailManor fits that bill quite nicely.

Turnkey zeroed in on the price, and while they are a bit on the steep side new, gently used TM s are becoming more and more available at very reasonable prices.  I look at from a cost vs. benefit angle, and for me it was a very reasonable price to have all of the amenities of a standard travel trailer, and the towing benefits of the pop-up.  Actually, I have found that the TM tows easier, than my Coleman did because 1) it is lighter than the Coleman, and 2) it has the wheels back far enough that I have NO SWAY, ZERO, NADDA!! And for me that is very valuable.  My Coleman used to scare me sometimes, now I am much more relaxed while towing.

Now as to your travelling questions, I will be taking mine cross country this Summer, and I am counting on the benefit of leaving it hitched up just as you stated.  As for a quick open to use the bathroom, I offer this:  when I take my trip, I have a very inexpensive porta potty (Thetford 135) that I will have in the
TM, I don t think it will be beneficial to set the bathroom walls up each time I just want a potty break.  However, I will set it up if I am going to be in a place say for lunch or a nap, as it only takes about 30 seconds to set it up.  It is a personal choice, but I will opt for the laziest of solutions.  We will be staying in CGs or Wal*Marts as we travel, and I am looking forward to the trip.

I hope that I have answered your questions, and if you should have any more or want any additional info, please just drop me an email and I promise to get back to you as soon as I can.

 Regards and Happy Campin  <><

WayfarerJust a small note to add; wish I could think of/find the " movie"  someone took of the TM set-up. They didn t believe the claims....contacted a dealer & dealer let them film a complete & quick set-up of the TM.
Neddless to say, they were VERY impressed...just can t remember where I got the original clip from.
OTOH, last year, when we camped w/NightOwl, she showed us a " quick"  tour of how to set up/take down her TM.....still quite impressive!! Very well-appointed, also. Good Luck!! [;)]

 WayfarerHey Larry,

As you know I was just at the Sacramento RV show and took a look at these here Trailmanors and really like them. Except they re $$, so of course, I won t be buying one anytime soon.

But I was wondering, have you weighed your 2720 and if so, how heavy is it? DW and I spent some time in a 2619, but she said she would want at least a queen bed, so that means the 2720, which according to specs is only about 70 lbs more. DW wants to keep her minivan, and when it comes time to sell this one, probably wants another minivan. Next minivan will have more power and will not have AWD, so that saves 300 lbs right there. GCWR of next minivan will be at least 8600 lbs. I have 8300 lb GCWR now.

DW s mom is talking about selling her JGC with 4.0 I-6, with 5000 lb tow capacity. While tow capacity is higher, I don t actually expect it to tow much better. But I would still consider buying it if she would give us a good price.

I really like the idea of the short set up and breakdown time and storing it in the garage with swing-away jack. We have a deep garage.

Another thing I like about the TM is how the dinette table just easily swings up and down, opening up a lot of space. I didn t think it did that which is why I thought yours felt small inside and that the table would always be in the way. But my mind was changed at the RV show after seeing it. Also, the dinette cushions were REAL comfy.

 So what s it weigh?
