One way to avoid driving after drinking too much wine is to stay at an RV resort in the middle of California?s wine country.

That?s part of the reason for the five-year effort by brothers Ken and Bill Mundee to open Wine Country RV Resort in Paso Robles, Calif., late last year, according to the San Luis Obispo (Calif.) Tribune.

Wine Country RV is on 20 acres and includes 82 sites with plans for 225 more over the next two years, the Mundee brothers told the Tribune.

The sites come equipped with sewer, water and electrical hook-ups. The resort also includes a 5,000-square-foot community center, a convenience store, showers, laundry and an arcade.

The brothers believe San Luis Obispo has overlooked RVers and they want to attract more than just wine connoisseurs to their resort. ?Paso Robles attracts tourists with its wineries and such, but now traveling families have a place to stay in an upscale RV resort,? Ken Mundee told the newspaper.

Fans of traveling to watch baseball teams playing at a nearby park and customers of a proposed water park are among the customers that the Mundee brothers hope to serve, in addition to visitors to the wineries that surround Wine Country RV.

tim5055Paso Robles???? Don t they grow raisens down there? (Ducking sour grapes thrown by PUT members living near Paso Robles) Uh, one question: who s gunna drive you back to the campground after you ve hit 10-15 wineries and sampled their wares? I hope this " upscale RV resort"  has a complimentary shuttle service.

On the other hand, this could be a lot of fun with a group of friends and a designated driver. For us Nor-Cal folks, the Napa/Sonoma/Mendocino area could have a lot of prospects. Just look at tiny little Anderson Valley: Handley, Husch, Roederer, Greenwood Ridge, Navarro, Lazy Creek, Brutocao, and Pacific Echo wineries, plus Anderson Valley Brewing Company (Red Tail Ale, Eye of the Hawk, etc.), all within 15 miles of each other... and Hendy Woods State Park right in the middle of them. Do I hear another NNC rally motioned?

 tim5055This is like Kismet.

It was just yesterday that I mentioned that I was interested in being a Wagon Master at a " Split the Distance Rally"  along the Morro Bay, Paso Robles, Wasco line.  And today this show up.

No information available on the Internet other than this newspaper article, but the address is on Airport Road, which is a quiet road well away from the 101.  Looks promising.  Stand by for details.
