Thought I would test the waters to see if there would be any interest in forming a camping group for the Central VA area.  My wife (Judy) and I enjoy camping once or twice a month.  We usually try to stay within 100-120 mi of the Lynchburg/Roanoke area for weekend trips.  We attended the Tn rally last year with the Pop-up Times group.  If you would be interested please let me know here or via a personal e-mail.  If there is interest in forming a group maybe we could meet at a central location to work out some plans.  Hope to hear from interested campers soon - it will soon be camping time. - Jim

Ps: if there is interest I ll move this discussion to the camping club board.

 USNRETHey Jim and Judy!

Hope things are well with you - I know you are having a snowy winter! Earl, Billie and I were in Roanoke Jan. 3-5 - and drove home Sunday through a terrible blizzard between Lynchburg and Appomattox.   By the time we hit Farmville, it had stopped, and the sun was out!

I know we talked with you and Tim and Penny (TJWSantaFe) about a trip to Newport News Park sometime this spring. What else did you have in mind?  I doubt I will be able to get off for the Eastern Rally - at least not all week, but we would really like to get together again for a weekend this spring.

Kathy is expecting (little Zachary Thomas Ashe!) in late April, and the RIR race is May 3rd. I am also going with Billie to New York City (chaparone for Show Choirs) April 4-6.  Can we fit something in around mid-April? Spring Break here is April 12-20. Even Mid-May like last year would be great.

The pool complex here at Pocahontas is supposed to open back up this summer, so I doubt I ll have much time off between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

 Good hearing from you!!

 USNRETHi Jim & Judy,

I live in the Fredericksburg, VA area (lower Stafford County, just of rt 17 actually) and would love to put a Central (or just plain Virginia...) PU camping club together.

The DW and I camped at Smith Mountain Lake State Park, along with Pocahantas State Park, Harrisonburg KOA, and  Fredericksburg KOA in 2001 and Westmoreland State Park, Misty Mountain Campground in Crozet, and Heavenly Acres Campground in Stannardsville in 2002 and Shenandoah National park several times in both 2001 and 2002.  We are always looking for interesting campgrounds to try and other folks that like pop up camping to camp with.  I recently found a cg one that appears to be quite interesting called BethPage Campground down on the Rappahanock River at Urbana, VA.  Looks like a really nice CG.  (www.bethpagecamp.com) But, the DW and I are always open to suggestions and have no problem traveling 3, and on occasion 4 hours for a camping weekend

Also, I am USN myself, still on active duty for the last 28 years.

 Count us in!!!

I think that a Virginia Popup Club is just the ticket.  You can count my affirmative vote.

I ve stayed at several campgrounds across the state and can pass on some of the great places we ve (DW, GF and cavman) stayed while camping (either in a tent or popup).  [:D]

Please keep me in mind and let me know any future trips.

So far I m confirmed at:

Horseshoe Point in April 11(N side of Philpot Lake)
 Grindstone Campgrounds in May 16(GWNF)
Seneca Shadows in June 6(just across the WVA line)
Bandits Roost in July 1(Kerr Lake in NC)
North Bend Park in Aug 29/Sep 1 (Buggs Island Lake)

If you want any other information, let me know.

USNRETDon t know about " Central Virginia"  but a Virginia club could get quite a following, there are a lot of us here at PUT...

Louise, if you decide to head for Newport News this spring, let me know, I d definately hop on board for that one, just name the weekend! Also, I plan on bringing the kids on up to Pocahontas SP sometime this summer to check out your new pool.....
