Any experience or recomdations with stove top camp ovens?

I have been looking at the Coleman Camp Oven as well as the Fox Hill Camp ovens.

Is the Fox hill oven colapseable?

Any experience as to which is better?

Are there others out there?

Thanks

I ordered an oven for my Hybrid but it wasn't in before my maiden trip to Florida. I bought the Coleman stovetop oven and it made the best biscuits you have ever eaten!!

I set it on top of my RVQ grill and it worked fine up until about 350 degrees, if I needed more heat I could have put it inside on the stovetop. Got my Coleman at Walmart for aroun $30 I think. The advantage to a Walmart purchase is that you can exchange an item just about anywhere you find yourself camping (I exchanged a 120VAC/12VDC converter for my Coleman thermoelectric cooler in Kingman AZ!!, 2500 miles from home)

The Foxhill oven is not collapsible. My Coleman has seen a lot of use and it shows it.

On advice of many people we decided to try the Coleman Camping Oven to add to our cooking arsenal.  So far it has worked well, but at times we put a sheet of aluminum foil over the top (wrapped a few inches down the sides) to increase the temperature.  Since we got it we have used it on almost every trip for one item or another (like a coffee cake for breakfast or a layer cake for desert).

The people who recommended it to us stated it worked best with the hottest stove you have available.  As that is our high pressure outside stove that is what we have used.  Reportedly, the hottest stove, and hence the ability to achieve the hottest oven temperatures would be a Coleman "fuel" (white gas) stove.

I have the Fox Hill double. It's a great oven. No it's not collapsible. but on the other hand it doesn't "leak" heat at all. No extra tin foil, or anything required. If you set your stove (the inside low pressure one) to between the first and second notch, it will maintain 350 to 370 degrees as long as you want. I made baked potatoes last week, and they were as good as the oven at home. It's fairly small 10 X 10 X 9 IIRC. So it rides on the floor under the table, Or under a bench. The temperature gage is great!

BTW i did have a Coleman fold up, and it's not even close to the performance of the FoxHill. The Foxhill will also hold a standard size (2 of them in my case) 8X8 pan, and the Coleman wouldn't. I'll put a picture up of it, so you can see how it fits the stove top. Then you decide.

I have a Coleman oven and it works OK.  The thermometer is junk, I tried 3 or 4 of them.  You need to buy a separate thermometer.  If you wrap them in a couple of layers of heavy duty foil they work better.  Keep an eye on the temperature and they bake food just fine. :)

spend the extra $10, and order an extra wire rack frome cloleman spare parts. doubles your capacity, and maintians about the same temperature. works great for warming things, or holding temp for several dishes/feeding large group.

Just when I thought I didn't need to buy anything else for the PU, you guys go and post this   . I had thought about the Coleman oven in the past, but heard enough complaints about it I let it go. The Fox Hill oven is very tempting, though. Does anyone own the the 1-shelf model? I wonder if it would be big enough for us. My kids' favorite camping breakfast is sausage gravy and biscuits, and I bake the biscuits ahead of time then pop them in the toaster when we're camping to heat them up - the oven would sure be nice.

These both look nice, but I think I will stick with my "toaster oven". As one more thing in the pop up and it will burst!!

I thought about the single too, and then thought, for  few bucks more, I get an extra pan, and it's only 3 inches difference. So I got the double. It makes great Bisquik Biscuits. The other really nice thing about it is, you use so little amount of heat. The old oven we would have to have the burner on the stove turned way up. This one, it's very low. The fold up oven, required the folding heat shield on the stove be folded back against the lid, this one it sits on the stove, and you can still use the other burners fairly well.

I spoke with the people at Fox Hill Industries yesterday evening.  They were very helpful in answering all of my questions.  Sounds to me like they have a great camping product in a 10 inch cube!

We ended up getting the double with two extra junior loaf pans and the extra recipe cards.

Thanks for all the feedback, it has been greatly appreciated in making my choice.
