Back from my Thanksgiving trip!

We had a wonderful trip to Hugeunot Memorial Park, right here in Jacksonville.

I made reservations only a week before the trip and was worried about how we would like the cg.  The state park cgs were all booked up weeks in advance.  We could have gone to an RV park but at a minimum of $30 a night, it wasn't going to happen.  Not with all the Christmas gifts I have yet to purchase.  I stumbled upon Hugeunot and found that the price was right... Just $7 a day!!! They weren't booked full and I wondered "why?  What's wrong with the cg that they aren't booked?"  The only reason I could find for thenm not being booked was that the have no hook-ups.  They do have nice warm free showers.  Nothing fancy but clean.  So unless folks were ready to really rough Thanksgiving like the pilgrims, or they had an RV with generator, then this cg wasn't for them.

We thourgoughly enjoyed our trip!  We had a fantastic site right on the ocean side(lagoon area with dunes and ocean right on other side).  The kids loved catching crabs and hunting for sharks teeth!!  We saw dolphins in the morning right behind our camper!  How cool is that!

Anyone who bird watches would have a blast!  There are so many to see... Pelicans, terns, sandpipers, cormorants and many ospery!

It was a breezy weekend and the para surfers and windsurfers were exciting to see.  At one point there were dozens of them!

Our neighbor had a kayak that she allowed us to use. It was fun... and tiring!

Hugeunot Mem. Park allows cars to be driven on the beach.  Fun to cruise around checking out the beach happenings.

On the other side of the cg (within sight) is the inlet for the St. John's River and the Mayport Naval Station is right there!  So cool to see the huge ships all light up at night!  The Tug boat pushing the barges in an out the inlet was fun to watch.  At night it looked like Christmas with all the twinkling lights from the Naval Station.

Every morning we could hear the announcement of "Sunrise" from the Naval station and the playing of Revelry let us know when it was time to get up.

Our Thanksgiving dinner was great.  We had smoked turkey breast, stuffing, roasted potaotes, squash and asparagus steamed on the fire, baked beans, sweet and sour noodles, rolls, cranberry sauce, and gravy.  It was a surprisingly easy meal to prepare while dry camping!  Only took about 30 mins in total!

This was our second trip in our new to us camper.  Thanks to all the help I got from folks here, we had the pleasure of having a running fridge to keep everything cold (so nice not to have to worry about ice and a cooler), a full water tank, and a working water heater!   The info I get from this site makes my camping trips better and easier all the time!!

We can wait to get back to Hugeunot Mem park again!  It close enough to home that we can go an a whim, just for a night or two.  I thought it was one of the best trips we have ever taken!  My family agrees!

It really nice to hear a camping report like this.  It covered many things besides the good times.  You gave a great campground recommendation at a reasonable cost, too.  And, yes, we do learn quite a lot about camping and popup campers from this site.

Mommamia,

Glad you enjoyed your trip.  Sounds like a campground I might like to vist.  It sounds much better than the campground from HELL we stayed at over Thanksgiving.  Check the campground reviews for Florida.  This is one place we will NOT be visiting again.

I read it and from the sounds of it, it's not someplace I'll be visiting either!
