I think we all understand, bearbait!  :)   I remember some pretty harsh flaming going on when the board was free, a lot of misinterpreting on purpose.  Things here don't seen quite as bad, even though not perfect! :M

YES!

Bearbait--it IS good to have you back, and I just wanted to say there are a lot of useful  ideas in your thread which I agree with and appreciate.  Too bad we dont have a more serious and philosophical forum to post it into, however,  as this one gets pretty frivolous at times as you know.  (You are SO right: THIS is the only forum appropriate for "fluff.")  And  here is something I recently wrote  which is exactly on your line of thinking expressed here:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"This seems like a good time to remark that those who object to OT posts in forums like the General and MrFixit and the like, have my complete agreement and sympathy. And there is rarely--if ever-- an excuse for hi-jacking any of those threads."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think with a little patience on all our parts,  things will return to normal (or as normal as this place can get given the variety of  goofy or free and independent spirits we have here) and we can all get on with the fun of campfiring together and the pleasures of trading information and advice on popups and camping.

I hope you, like many of us,  had a great Thanksgiving Day with friends and family and are coming back  rested, refreshed, of good cheer, and ready to  partake in the good times awaiting us all at PUT.   (At least from my point of view, a day of stopping and giving thanks for all our many blessings--including this board--has given me a fresh outlook and a desire to just relax and  enjoy the people here and their varied opinions, and this certainly includes you.  (Remember, you'd find me hideously boring if I ALWAYS agreed with you.)

(Sorry, this danged  'puter has gone on a sickout and I cant use smilies from it right now, so please pretend a few Big Smiles and that cheery yellow   big Sun Icon.)

Bearbait,

I agree, I really dont have time to post a lot.  When I log on at lunch or break at work (shh) ;) and sometimes in the evening.  I find myself sifting through the posts that have lost the substance from the initial title and "evesdropping" on other peoples personal conversations  .  When I wade through it I wasted all my time.  Breaks over, back to work!

I think this is the jest of what you are trying to say, correct me if I'm wrong

Bearbait,

Very good explination.

My personal PP is when someone asks a perfectly legitimate question, and the reply starts with, "I don't know but, ... "

If someone needs advice on how to fix something or about a campground or any number of topics, and a person doesn't have the knowledge to help, that person should just move on.

And off-topic comments should be in Campfire, not elsewhere.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend all.

First of all, I'd like to point out that this is the only comment I've made about any of the "Fluff" postings and it's subsequent fall-out. Being a moderator at another board, I know when to keep out of things (at least usually).

Quote"I don't know but, ... "
I understand what you mean up to a point. Those that don't know the answer, but just go on to tell them good luck or something else are not helping at all. I've answered a few post's with "I don't know but, ... " however, I've tried to follow it up with something relevant to the original post. Depends on what is going on. I'm too busy visiting too many boards to get caught up in the "Fluff" topics anyway!

I also fully agree that OT post's belong here and nowhere else. I do remember the days in the general section where we ALL went out of our way to start an off topic post with the "OT" in the beginning of the subject line. This campfire section was started for just those posts, and that is where they should remain.

Perhaps a little more aggressive moderating could keep that in check, but I hate to advocate that. Over moderating and heavy handed control is one of the reasons I resigned as Moderator over at iRV2...
