Since the flu kept us from joining everyone at Ccacchuma this week, I'm sitting here wistfully looking forward to our 2004 camping trips. I've been wanting to try Rivernook in Kernville. It averages about 80 degrees that time of year, according to weather.com, and there is supposed to be a stream that runs through the cg that the little kids can play in. Of course, there's always whitewater rafting on the Kern River for the big "kids" as well.

So, anyone up for a get-together in early to mid-May? :D

Rivernook is our all-time favorite campground, and we'd join you there in a heartbeat, but I have to say that planning a group trip there is a challenge, especially during the "high season" which runs from May through Labor Day.  I would recommend checking with them on their reservation policy for early May.

IIRC, during the season, you can only make a reservation either:

1) as "in advance" as you'd like for a full week or more of camping or
2) 7 days (or less) in advance for weekend trips.

You can't reserve several months (or even weeks) in advance for just a 3-4 day trlip.

This would make it a challenge to plan a trip with a group and hope to be even remotely close together.

It is my understanding the "regulars" often book and pay for a full week even if they're only coming for the weekend,  just so they can make sure they have a spot.

That's why we ALWAYS go the last weekend in September when the rules are more relaxed and we can book it in mid-August.  It's still plenty warm during the day and the nights are usually in the 50's.

LMK if you need advice as to sites to try for (assuming you're able to abide by "the rules."

We'd be up for a get together in May.
